Ythryn

Ythryn is a large outpost that was once ruled by the Great Ones of the Shianti Empire . Before the The Fall of Ythryn  , it was held aloft by the Mythallar of Ythryn . During this golden age of the city, it was led by a member of the Shianti Great Ones known as Iorlnthas .

The Shianti Empire believes Ythryn to be destroyed long ago and now buried under millennia of ice. In MS 5094, An archeological expedition from the Magician's Guild of Toran discovered indications of a past Shianti, or elf stronghold that some believe to by Ythryn. Full exploration of these ruins was obstructed by the The Great Darkness of the North  .

While Exploring Ythryn  , the The Antiquarian Association discovered that Iorlanthis , now a Nadziranim spectre, ruled over the city. He aimed to restore Ythryn to the sky, and reassert the rule of Shianti Empire over Kalte . The The Antiquarian Association stole the Ebony Spindle , and returned to the The Athenaeum of Hammerdal to share the tale of Ythryn .

Districts

Ythryn itself was dedicated to multiple schools of learning for the Great Ones of the Shianti Empire .  There were numerous bastions of learning, and areas secured from both the noble and commoner citizens of this city.

The Noble Houses of Po and Ren housed their warriors, and servants in the surrounding village.  Commerce was carried out here, beyond the eyes of the Great Ones.

History

From Kant :
“Ah, yes. The far-flung outpost of Ythryn. There is little documented about that doomed city.

The Great Ones called for the foundation of Ythryn a few years following the creation of the Moonstone. The Great One Iorlanthas called upon two Noble Houses, the House of Po and the House of Ren, to establish a Shianti settlement in Kalte. The House of Ren had a long and storied martial history. They tamed the beasts, and laid waste to the ancient giants of Kalte. The House of Po held great wealth and financed the migration of the Shianti to the north and creation of Ythryn itself. In those times, the Shianti ruled the lands that are now Northern Dessi.

The Shianti have never enjoyed the cold.

Following the establishment of Ythryn, several Great Ones, including Iorlanthas, travelled the corridors of magic and took up residence.

The city prospered for centuries. The Shianti in residence building up a true city from the original settlement, and the Great Ones keeping to their laboratories and academies. During this time, the Great Ones created the Mythallar, a giant wellspring of magical power in the middle of the city. Time passed, and the noble houses Using the Mythallar, the Great Ones changed the climate in and around the city, making Ythryn a virtual paradise in Kalte.

All this time, the House of Ren had prosecuted their war against the giants. They drove the giants across the wastes and seized their lands, and the magical products of their shamans. They returned these to the Great Ones in Ythryn for study. At the end, when victory against the giants seemed assured, calamity struck Ythryn.

None of the Great Ones survived. The Houses of Po and Ren were devastated with few survivors. The few Shianti that still lived, made their way across the wastes to the sea. Few successfully made their way back to the Shianti homeland. They reported that Ythryn had fallen through the ice, destroying the homes of all that lived within the city proper, the surrounding lands. It did not appear that the giants had destroyed Ythryn, but rather some magical destruction from within the city itself.

The Great Ones forbade the return to Kalte, declaring the land cursed and inhospitable. It would seem that the history of Kalte has born this out, with the humans creating the great fortress of Ikaya and the devastation that followed.”
