Melora
The Wildmother Melora
Melora is the human goddess of nature, wilderness, reproduction, and beauty.
Symbolism
Melora is most often depicted as a woman wearing little clothing, adorned with vines, leaves, or flowers. Symbols most commonly associated with her include a wreath of grass and grain affixed to a wooden crook.Places of Worship
Melora is primarily worshipped as part of the state religion of the theocracy of Albasca. Her followers have sects in nearly all human civilizations, most notably in the Ascalon Empire, where worship of Melora is illegal, a cause of much religious strife.History
In contrast with many other prime deities worshipped by humans, initial accounts of Melora depict her as a demigod First One native to Materia, first making an appearance before the War of the Gods and only later gaining enough power to become a deity. If true, it would make her the youngest and only god worshipped prominently by humans that is native to Materia. The Cult of Melora depicts Erathis as being the lover of Melora during at least some of the War of the Gods, although this is strictly contested, especially by more modern worshippers of Erathis. Worship of Melora was particularly popular in the period after the War of the Gods but declined swiftly after the founding of the Three Kingdoms and its derivatives including Ascalon. However, followers of Melora have enjoyed a fervent resurgence of her worship in Albasca in the modern era.
