Narasaki

Narasaki is a large mountain city in the eastern Shou Empire. It is currently ruled by Lord Tadashi Nishikawa of the Nishikawa Dynasty.

Districts

Narasaki is loosely divided into four districts, based largely around the most prominent buildings in different parts of the city. These distinctions are mostly colloquial.

Frugal District

Southern district. Centered around the Golden Shrine, where donations from the rich are passed to the poor.

Compassionate District

Center-East district. Connected to the Consort's Shrine, where the needs of those in need of or looking to develop compassion are met.

Humble District

Center-West district. Connected to the Id Shrine, where group worship is held in uniform garb and psychedelic ceremonies are offered.

Sakura District

Small northern district around the castle of Narashaki-jou. Filled with distinctive cherry trees.

Geography

Narasaki is built into Mt. Haku, which is often considered a 'holy mountain' important to The Way. Historically, the mountain has had connections to the Underdark. Narasaki also neighbors lake Kōga as part of the eastern border of the Empire, and the fertile plains of the central Shou Peninsula.

Religious Importance

Mt. Haku, and by extension Narasaki, are generally regarded as holy sites for The Way, and are often used for important rituals. This is reinforced by the reputation of the ruling Nishikawa Dynasty, which actively cultivates the city's religious image.

History

Originally founded as an Elven city near the end of the War of the Gods, the city was sacked and destroyed during the Shou-Elvish Wars. For a period of a millennia, the area around the former city was considered cursed and dangerous as creatures from the Underdark regularly emerged from the many caves deep within the city's neighboring Mt. Haku.   The city was founded once again in 1920 B.A. as the Shou Empire's influence began to spread further across the Shou Peninsula, and many of its mountain passages were sealed.   Narasaki has historically been ruled by a variety of great Shou dynasties - the Nishikawa Dynasty acquired its lordship during their rise to prominence in the 7th century A.A., and have ruled it since.
