Materia 41: "Purgatorio"
General Summary
Fighting an avatar of the Dark One Asmodeus, the party finds themselves outmatched. Breaking open the wall to let the the river styx flow into the room, all hell breaks loose as Aiwin Thedan's clones are destroyed and Mari and Hanako are killed. As the sole survivor, Yvri narrowly avoids falling under the Dark One's spell and gets washed out into the Styx.
Waking up in layer 666 of the Abyss, Yvri leads the lost souls of Mari and Hanako to meet with Feyrith Elro in his prison. After he warns them that his escape could spell disaster, Glasya arrives to free him for the Dark One's invasion of Materia. Suggesting that he should go after his sword, Metorus, Glasya and him leave his prison. Opting to do their best to escape with the help of Melora, the party traverses the abyss to escape, arriving on the shores of Asphodel amongst the souls of the dead.
After Hanako and Mari are resurrected, they meet their savior, Marius' wife Isabella. After Marius retrieves Yvri, the party is reunited alive and in one piece, thankful for their continued existence. After speaking more with the Ekkers and Fredrika, the party heads for a brief stop in Seito to see their loved ones before heading to Erenthas to finish executing their coup plans in Regnum Solas.
