Lenif

<Lenn-eef>

Lenif is a nation well known for the moon goddess Wytris who protects and guides the people there. Under her guidance, the nation has become renowned for its safety and stability.

Structure

Before the arrival of Wytris and the creation of her church, Lenif was a feudalistic monarchy with nobles pledging service to the ruling family, and lesser nobles serving them in turn. When the church was established by the king, he dispensed with the need of most nobles and instead had the church take control of their territories. Many of the nobles resisted, and were entirely pushed out of the country - a few acquiesced and were allowed to retain their title and personal holdings, though lost much of their power.   Currently, the church of Wytris handles the day to day management of Leine cities, and the king of Lenif and his advisors focus on larger scale issues and proclamations without worry of noble infighting.

Demography and Population

Lenif is a predominantly human nation with Ocian heritage along with Bocraean immigrants. Halflings from Wejnazeer and half-elves from the Great Forest make up the larger minorities.   Though they are excluded from official census details, many Koh kobolds live in mountains and caves of the nation.   Official census: 78% human, 10% halfling, 8% half-elf, 1% elf, 3% other

Military

Lenif maintains a standing royal army with allegiance pledged to the ruler of the nation. It is well funded, well trained, but more recently fairly lacking in experience with mass combat. It is primarily tasked with guarding the capital, and of ridding countrysides with bandits and similar roaming dangers. Service is voluntary, and somewhat exclusive. Though there are no laws preventing any citizen from entering service, the profession is solidly in the hands of families whose ancestry traces back many generations of royal guards. New soldiers without such connections often face some extra level of hazing to be accepted into the ranks.   In addition to the standing army, the Church of Wytris organizes militias across the country. What the royal army does not have time to do, the militias often volunteer to deal with. These forces are self funded, and range from poorly equipped part time militias to nearly full time soldiers in more wealthy cities.   The church's militias also handle much of the policing of cities other than the capital.

Foreign Relations

Lei nobility largely favors neutrality among their neighbors, and foreign relations are often stiff and formal. It is on strained terms with Bocrae due to its neutral stance in the Aswani Civil War, an act that disproportionately benefitted the rebellion.   Lenif trades with all of its neighbors, primarily exporting livestock, coal, and fine marble. Trade with Wejnazeer is difficult due to frequent raids by kobolds, and the halflings refusal to address the matter.

Agriculture & Industry

Lenif is largely self sufficient, and produces most raw materials it needs itself. The northern region of Lenif produces lumber from forests that run south from Bocrae, and fish from the inner sea.   Rock salt is plentiful in Lenif, and the nations mines are able to find enough iron and tin to support their own needs. Coal is similarly plentiful, and a major export to Aswana and Iccot.   Sheep and cattle are raised throughout the countryside, providing meat and wool where crops are more difficult to grow.   Most trade imports consist of luxury goods, or extra materials bought to add to the nation's stockpiles.

Infrastructure

Thanks to the organization of the Church of Wytris, Lei roads are well maintained and relatively safe to travel. Highly traveled paved roads are often patrolled by volunteer militia members, and easily navigable with wagons.   In the southern part of the country, more troubles with Koh kobolds lead to fewer paved roads and more dangerous travel.
