Humans
Humans, the chosen people of Torm and the most widespread race across the face of Naneth. The humans of Naneth are a diverse and varied people, coming in all shapes, sizes, colours and backgrounds. They are renowned for their ambition and power to grow, even under the most unlikely of circumstances. At this point in time, during the Age of Renewal, humans have become the dominant species upon Naneth.
Description
Humans are a people with varying characteristics. On average, humans stood about 5'8" - 6'5" and weighed around 120 - 250lbs. However, for a Goliath or Half-Orc, those averages would be much different and higher. The bulk of the human race had fair skin, with hair colours of blonde and brown. Further south on Naneth, one would find humans of darker skin and hair, especially in regions like Meridian and Chult. Half breeds, such as Half-Elf and Half-Orc had varying characteristics, sharing traits with those other races as well. Goliath, or the Northmen, stood much taller and heavier than any other subrace of human. These gigantic human cousins stood about 6'5" - 7'5" on average, weighing well over 300lbs. Most humans would live around 80 years, with anything past that becoming a blessing from Torm. Half breeds could expected different lifespans, as both Half-Elf and Half-Orc have the blood of the Eldar within them, usually extending their lives to ages well over 100 years and beyond. Goliath tended to live lives comparable to normal humans, if not a little bit shorter.Subraces
Humans, Torm's Chosen: The original type of human created by Torm at the end of the 1st age. Since then, this race has spread out across Naneth, now appearing in almost every region in the world. Large civilizations such as Astora and Atmora are the products of human ambition. While most are fair-skinned, one would find many combinations of darker skin and hair, especially in countries like Meridian and Chult. Half-Elf: The product of interracial relations between Elves and Humans, the Half-Elf exhibits the best traits of both. They are fair skinned and beautiful like the Eldar Folk, yet ambitious and hardy as humans. Unlike the other types of half-breed, Half-Elves are generally treated fairly by all and can lead normal lives among the other races of Naneth. Half-Orc: Perhaps the most unfortunate race of life upon Naneth. Half-Orcs are the combined creation of a human and Orc. They are rare, because of the circumstance needed to create this type of life, due to Orc being among the most hated race upon Naneth. Those unfortunate enough to be born as an Half-Orc have a tough life ahead. Many do not treat them as equals, and they are often not welcome in towns and villages. Though in diverse and progressive places like Astora or Meridian, they are treated well enough. Unfortunately, when they are born into The Quaan Empire, or even Atmora, they are often killed. Goliath: The largest subrace of human, and the largest race of any type on Naneth. Some believe that the Goliath was created through inter-species relations between Giants and humans, although this has never been proven. Most likely, they have just adapted over generations and centuries living within Astora's north, in the The Wilderlands. Here, most goliath live among huge, warmongering tribes, often fighting each other for control over huge swaths of mountainous land. This race of human can be as bloodthirsty as any other creature on Naneth, although many have shown the ability to peacefully communicate with others.Society
Culture
Humans are so diverse and widespread over Naneth, it is tough to find common culture that spreads throughout them all. As a rule, most humans worship and recognize Torm as their creator and favored god. This is especially true in places like Atmora, where the worship of other gods has almost been outlawed. Astora on the other hand, recognizes Torm well enough, but also pays tribute to the other gods of the Naneth pantheon, with individuals being free to worship whomever they choose. But as noted, humans are diverse and there are many aspects that may change whom they worship, such as profession. Clerics may worship Kelemvor instead of Torm, or a sailor may worship Sandrum as they cross the sea. In some cases, those that have a darker disposition may even seek guidance from The Dead Three, though this is usually enacted by Warlocks, Necromancers, or worse. Within the Goliath subrace, Bekur is heavily worshiped as their chief deity of war. Every battle and drop of blood shed is in Bekur's name. An ancient tradition they proudly continue to this day. Within human cities, life has been built with hard work in mind, with humans of all ages taking part in the ambitious march of human progress. Human cities are bustling with activity; from taverns, schools, governments, private companies and the shipyards, there is little that humans have yet to master.Interracial Relations
Dating back to the Age of Fire, humans have always been on good terms with other races, often working together to defeat common enemies, or overcome great obstacles. However, that sentiment has changed somewhat within recent memories. In Astora, the war with the Ironwood Kingdom and its subsequent absorption into Astoran society, has left hard feelings between humans and elves of the region. Elven rebel groups such as The Remnants have continued these feelings to the present, as they continue to harass human forces in the area. In Atmora, the relations have deteriorated even farther. Humans in that region, suffering from years of war with The Quaan Empire have grown weary of those that do not follow their ways. The worship of any gods other than Torm has been outlawed, leading many non-humans into committing the crime of worshiping their personal patrons. The humans there have grown xenophobic and racist as a result of this turmoil. Rumors of non-human purges have been quickly making their way through the region, leading many elves, dwarves, and others to flee.History
The beginning of human history began with the defeat of The Dead Three at the hands of Torm; the Loyal Fury. He was one of The Eres, and as such commanded great powers of creation. For his victory over Bane in single combat, Torm was gifted the chance to create life upon Naneth. Eldath, one of the original creators of the world allowed him this opportunity, to create humans, the last race to be created before the Age of Creation ended. The Age of Fire dawned, and with it, the human race's first foray into this new world. The first humans inhabited the northeastern past of Naneth, establishing the city of Aramoor and other smaller settlements around the region, by AoF 345. Humans began to dominate the region, growing stronger and stronger by the year, unhindered by any acts of gods or catastrophes of the natural world. Together with the Dwarves of The Teeth, they built strong connection within themselves and with others. However, this golden age was short lived, as Tiamat, an unholy creation of Bane, noticed them from the south, and grew jealous and fearful of their progress. In AoF 346, Tiamat, the Queen of Dragons, using a horde containing chromatic dragons, Orc and other horrible creatures, launched an assault on Aramoor and the surrounding region. In an event known as the The Night of Chains, Aramoor fell within a night, it's inhabitants either slain or enslaved for Tiamat's oncoming empire. The humans of the region were devastated, and within the span of a few months, the entire area was under Tiamat's control, and humanity had been enslaved. Humans remained under the control of Tiamat for almost two hundred years, generations of humans were born, knowing nothing but pain, suffering and anger. Tiamat, growing complacent in her rule, allowed the humans to continue growing stronger, even under the tyrannical rule of their dragon overlords. As the years passed, humans began to rebel, with more frequency and more ferocity. The other races of the region, dwarves and elves, took notice of this uprising and saw their chance. Together they joined with the humans, and under Tiamat's gaze, in AoF 560, The Alliance was born. Finally the humans pushed back, surprising their overlords, and quickly took back Aramoor. There, they gathered the combined strength of the humans, dwarves, and elves and began the War of Fire, pushing Tiamat's legion back to the south, into the The Red Wastes. This war would continue for well over 200 years, with The Alliance's resolve beginning to wane in AoF 700. Tiamat's forces were becoming too much to hold back, and over the next few decades, the humans, dwarves and elves fell back to Aramoor once more. As the 800th year of the Age of Fire dawned, it looked as if the chosen creations of The Eres would finally succumb to Tiamat's will. But in AoF 809, a final plan was hatched. The remaining forces of The Alliance, joined by the remaining forces of good on Naneth, would push a frontal assault into The Red Wastes and the heart of Tiamat's territory. This would draw the attention of the bulk of the Queen's legions, and draw her own gaze to this final stand. While distracted, a team of The Alliance's greatest warriors would travel unhindered to Orphans Peak, the rumored home of Tiamat herself, in a bid to slay the dragon in her own domain. In AoF 810, as humanity and Naneth faced it's darkest hour, the plan was enacted. The entirety of The Alliance pushed into The Red Wastes, making their way towards Zahovaar, the capital of the region. This was known as the Battle of Orphans Peak, and Bahamut himself is said to have joined this fray, as a last attempt to push back the evil of his counterpart; Taimat. Tiamat's endless horde fell upon The Alliance, slaughtering them as they drew ever closer to Zahovaar. The distraction had worked, and four of Naneth's greatest heroes arrived at Orphans Peak, and indeed found Tiamat inside. It was then that Tiamat was finally slain and banished to The Underblaze. The heroes were victorious, though not without great sacrifice. The overwhelming majority of The Alliance was lost upon the sands of The Red Wastes, and those that did survive, would not survive what was to come. The Alliance, in their moment of greatest triumph, was betrayed. One of the heroes, a human named Halkor, betrayed the others inside Orphans Peak, dedicating himself to a being called The Nameless One. Halkor caste a spell that split the mountain top, releasing a deadly mist into the air and killing all whom remained inside the mountain. The mists began to spread over Naneth, guided by the invisible hand of The Nameless, in a bid to wipe out all life. All remaining humans fled into the mountains and dark places of the world, though many perished before they could make it to safety. The bulk of human survivors began a dark life within The Teeth, sheltered by the dwarves of the mountain. Two thousand years of darkness passed, generations of humans birthed and died within the dark of The Teeth. Almost all memory of the previous age passed from their minds, before the Age of Mists had finally passed, giving way to the Age of Renewal. So dawned the Age of Renewal, and it would be the age in which humans truly demonstrate their ambition and power of growth. As the mists cleared, the surviving humans left The Teeth, and reclaimed Aramoor. By AoR 50, Atmora, the first official country on Naneth was founded. From here, humans would spread throughout all of Naneth, giving birth to new nations, and new conflicts. By AoR 268, Astora is born. This country would grow, and by AoR 452, would arise as the largest and most powerful country in the world. Today, humans continue to be the dominant race on Naneth, and show no signs of slowing down. For more information on the Age of Renewal, visit it's page here.Remove these ads.
