Union Naval Department
The Union Naval Department (or, colloquially, the Union Navy) is the military force of Union. It maintains several capital and supercapital ships, and publishes the standards for auxiliary line, subline and support ships that Union's subject states provide, under ThirdComm's Auxiliary Doctrine.
The UND shares an institutional rivalry with the Union Administrative Department: where the UND relies on naval liasons to secure its logistical needs, the UAD uses its administrators to secure its diplomatic goals, which brings the equivalent departments to bureaucratic blows when they find themselves at odds. The UND is also often at odds with the Department of Justice/Human Rights, despite the former often providing tactical and logistical support for the latter; while the DoJ/HR has a reputation for being highly militant, it is often less hierarchical, especially compared to the UND, and DoJ/HR Liberator Teams generally find the UND ponderous and unwieldy. The UND possesses special authority over other departments in times of emergency; under SecComm, the UND's admirals frequently used this authority to further their anthrochauvanist goals, most infamously on Hercynia. However, under ThirdComm, the UND has been more circumspect, allowing the UAD and DoJ/HR to take a more forward role.
