Union

Union is the hegemonic, federated polity that claims unilateral authority over New Humanity, composed of various Metropolitan core worlds, Cosmopolitan nomads, and peoples of the Diaspora--those who grew out of the original Ten, as well as other colonial missions embarked upon during the Second Expansion era. Currently organized under the utopian Third Committee, Union claims to operate in the best interests of all of humanity, though this is regularly and hotly debated among its citizens and those who manage to be outside its far-reaching influence alike.

Structure

Union is organized under the auspices of its Central Committee, a body not unlike Nuavaao's Committee. Unlike Nuavaao, however, which keeps its Spokescouncil and Committee separate, Union combines them into one massive forum. Representatives from each Union world meet together with the heads of the Administrative Department, the Naval Department, the Department of Justice/Human Rights, the Science Bureau, the Economic Bureau, the Bureau of Colonial Administration, and the Bureau of Orbital and Non-Terrestrial Management.

Demography and Population

Union is composed of three broad classes of people: Metropolitans, Cosmopolitans and Diasporans. Metropolitans live on core worlds, with unfettered access to Union's utopian economy, while Diasporans live at the margins of access. Neither tend to leave their home-worlds or stations; Cosmopolitans by definition straddle the two groups in their stead, living most of their lives in relativistic time apart from "normal" time.

Foreign Relations

Union is currently at war with the Aunic Ascendancy, after one of their crusade fleets entered the Boundary Garden system during what is being dubbed the Second Distal War. Reports are only just now filtering in from the periphery, but it appears that the Ascendancy has either captured or destroyed the Boundary Garden blinkgate. The status of the Aun living in exile on Cornucopia and elsewhere is unknown.   Union also maintains tenuous relations with several corpro-states, hundreds of Metropolitan worlds and thousands of Diasporan worlds, each with varying levels of autonomy.

Trade & Transport

Union manages trade with Diasporan worlds through the distribution of manna by the Union Economic Bureau; however, capital and property are held in common by Metropolitans and most Cosmopolitans. The local value of manna is calculated through a number of factors--labor power and the distribution of natural resources chief among them.
