Amaranthine

This small fruit looks similar to a small red eggplant, and is highly coveted by changelings and goblins alike. The stem of the Amaranthine is spiny. The flowers are white with splashes of red, with a five-lobed corolla and yellow stamens. Cultivars have fruit that is small, egg-shaped, glossy, and deep red with red flesh and a spongy, "meaty" texture. Eating the amaranthine heals the Changeling of one point of aggravated damage per scene. Consuming more of the fruit does not convey additional benefits or healing.

Habitat

This goblin fruit is difficult to find, as it only grows at the sites of large battles in the Hedge. Amaranthine grows naturally where the soil in the hedge has been saturated with blood. It has no other prerequisite it seems as it has been found in the dark hollows of deep forests and the sun-warmed fields of wildflowers.

Growth & Cultivation

Amaranthine is difficult to move from its chosen spot given its requirements for growth. Amarantine reaches maturity about 65 to 90 days from transplanting. To transplant, soil should have abundant phosphorus and calcium, so add lime and compost to the soil three weeks prior to transplanting. Mix a pint of blood into the soil beneath each transplant.
