Valòmar Election of Y1111

The Valòmar Election of Y1111 was held on 20 April, Y1111. Zadok te-Arawn, a Cleric of Arawn and the Primo of Sladkóro-in-Arawn, lost to the younger Lona te-Morigana, a Warrior Monk of Morigana and the youngest Valòmar to be elected since the Age of Integrity.   Though the election was hotly contested in the debating phase due to the two candidates' differing visions for the Kingdom of Scalados's future, it was decided in a single round. Its leadup was notable for the political involvement of the Dragonslayers of Cantonova, and for the sudden death of Petoros Lebëmya, one of the sitting Lebemnë, just two days prior.

The Conflict

Prelude

The previous Valòmar, Ricosa te-Brigida, died on 10 January Y1111. As per tradition, the notice of his death was sent out first to the temple-campuses of the Wild Dynasty, then to the Eldatar and the duke of each diocese via the kaiwelë of the Citadel of the Wild.   Recommendations quickly came back from Iti te-Morigana and Lucina te-Danu, the Primas of their respective temples, for Lona te-Morigana to be considered as a candidate. She had been prominently known as a traveling theologian and preacher since the late Y1070s, recorded by sages across northern Scalados as having performed miracles in impoverished towns of the region. She had even supposedly ventured further into the North and preached to the isolated villages beyond where the forces of the Eldatar and the Citadel could functionally reach.   At the same time, King Supedo I recommended Zadok te-Arawn, already one of the main candidates in consideration by the Lebemnë, led by the recommendations of Petoros Lebëmya and Isáura Lebëmya. Zadok was a longtime political kingmaker, having been a royal advisor on Voli and within Scalados itself.

Deployment

Zadok traveled to the Citadel of the Wild well over a month before the arrival of his temple, leaving it in charge of his head of theology and meeting with as many diplomats as he could in the leadup to the election. Lona's route was much longer, both since she had been living at the remote Ohtánio-in-Morigana and because she stopped in many villages along the way to heal the sick and give advice for the future. She gained notoriety for telling a small village in the Oddwaters to evacuate before a devastating early-season flood; from this incident came the popular saying that Lona "sees more with one eye than most do with two."

The Engagement

For the traditional pre-election banquet held on 18 April Y1111, Zadok te-Arawn's guests were a number of high-ranking diplomats: Lady Morgana of Cape Hildegard, Baron Scarpia of Dreibach, and General Luciano Britt of Kyolondë. In contrast, Lona invited the Dragonslayers of Cantonova, an adventuring group supported by her original temple, Eldanír-in-Danu.   Before the dinner, however, the Dragonslayers' clerics Sen and Charlotte Schutz discovered Petoros Lebëmya dead in an upper chamber of the Taras Telumë. The Phalanx of the Wild increased security on the banquet's guests and were able to stop Sen from attacking Lona in a state of apparent demonic possession. The rogue cleric was arrested, and no further difficulties were encountered at the dinner.   As is typical, the new Lebëmya was chosen by the gods during the night; unusually, though, he was able to take over his duties immediately. Alfonso Verdini, a High Elf nobleman from Cantonova, was not trained in the Wild Dynasty, though he had long been an amateur philosopher and theologian. He was quickly caught up to speed by the rest of the Lebemnë and was able to vote in the election the next day.   Only a single round of votes needed to be cast. Votes between the temple heads were split evenly, but the Lebemnë voted nearly unanimously for Lona te-Morigana.
