Wargrave
Wargrave is the special title given to a Margrave who sits on the Council of Wargraves in Cantonova. Each of these governing officials is pledged as a Warlock to an archfey from the Summer Court.
As of Y1111, the current list of wargraves and their patrons is as follows:
Elvira Laurélin, Half-Elf, wargrave of Verenestra (Cuarto Perso)
Lydia Oakenheart, Halfling, wargrave of Bombadil (Cuarto Alto)
Musetta, human, wargrave of Flimandflam (Cuarto Alto)
Dido, Sea Elf, wargrave of Galatea (Cuarto Porata)
Hildia, half-elf, wargrave of Iolanthe (Cuarto Porata)
Prince Orlofsky, Moon Elf, wargrave of Arobãn (Cuarto Almaviva)
Madame Flora, half-elf, wargrave of Queen Mab (Cuarto Almaviva)
Veronica le Manse, Dwarf, wargrave of Grümpel (Commerce District)
Terminatur, Gnome, wargrave of Pan (Borderlands)
- Ruthven Murgatroyd, Human, wargrave of Telwyth-Teg (Cuarto Perso)
Appointment
Each district of the city appoints its wargraves differently.
- Cuarto Perso has one elected wargrave position and one hereditary title. The hereditary title has belonged to the Murgatroyd dynasty, a human family that also holds land in the Near Isles of the Aquatic Kingdom, for thirteen generations. This family is said to have a special relationship with the title's patron, Telwyth-Teg, though they have long been secretive as to how.
- Cuarto Alto's wargraves are appointed by the trade guilds, with one representing "hard" (materials-oriented) professions and one "soft" (service-oriented) professions. These wargraves are almost always the head of their particular trade guild. The wargrave of the commerce district is chosen in the same manner, but from merchant and regulatory guilds.
- Cuarto Almaviva elects one wargrave via popular vote and appoints the other from among the existing leadership of the city's major cultural institutions. (In some eras of Cantonova's history, this position has instead been held by a military leader from the Cantonova Royal Guard.)
- Finally, the wargrave of the Borderlands has traditionally been chosen via town council meetings in the three main villages of the area (Modéreére, Nolber, and Lomelindë), and then a random draw between the three candidates. However, Terminatur (originally chosen by Lomelindë) has been so popular as a wargrave that neither Modére nor Nolber has appointed a candidate in four decades.
