Physical Description
Physical quirks
Guttering Heart - Caziyel suffers from life-threatening attacks of lethargy as her hot inner fire threatens to burn itself out - carries vial of flammable oil to kickstart it and slow-burning herbs to provide ongoing energy to dose herself back in.
Special abilities
Abilities and skills:
- Like all Emsh, made of clay – tough, fire-resistant (arrowproof, but vulnerable to hammers). She runs very hot, and being small, she has relatively shallow reserves so has to eat often - always carries oil vial to refuel if needed.
- Able to heat own flesh to dull-red temperatures (4-500C)
- Able to look into fires and see out of any other fire within an area determined the size of the fire used. She can only see out as if the area is illuminated only by the fire she sees through.
- Expert investigator, particularly gifted at interrogations and noticing lies – reinforced by her surveillance powers.
- Practiced at leading teams.
- Skilled at a wide variety of crafts (as is common for Emsh – contrasts with Nidari specialisation)
- Skilled with her chosen weapons – single-handed axe and oval shield.
- Axe is on a 2.5ft wooden haft, with one hooky axe-head and a small hammer-head on the other end. The hammer is used against other Emsh, while the axe-blade works well against less brittle foes.
- 3.5ft oval shield, wooden and bossed, with quilted leather or fabric layers across the front to lessen the concussive force of blows.
- Also a good shot with the sling.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
- Raised and fired in the Emshol estuary - near the Nidari Reach, a more trade-based area, and disliked by the Pangol Empire for that region. in particular, she grew up in a settlement off the main river channel, in a marshy region that mostly produces rushes, along with some rarer plants and fish for trade with the non-emsh settlements nearer the coast.
- Mother is a slipwright, father a farmer/smallholder.
- passes her firing with relative ease - but meets Yeshenha, lighterwoman of eternities during her sailing-challenge and the two have an adventure. takes the ceremony relatively young as she is jealous of/ competitive with her sister.
- after her firing, develops her titular firesight - assumes that everyone who's been fired has this ability, and uses it for her personal curiosity as well as to help out with tasks.
- Word of her fire-seeing gets about following an incident where she uses her power to find a Pangol trapped in a burning building, and she is recruited into the Pangol army at a young age as a tactical advisor - this is where she trains.
- Fights with the Pangol with distinction against the Teytonol rebellion, and stays on with occupying forces as a Castigator. she picks up some life-long Teyton habits, like sleeping in a hammock. during this time, she also meets her rival.
- The occupation drags on and becomes more obviously unjust to her; turning point is when she witnesses a city/region burning, and sees the entire empire in the flames (as well as the world beyond) and understands the empire's evil, as well as seeing the spread of The Suppuration.
- She wants to desert, but knows her family is effectively hostage if she leaves. She does her best to be bad at her job.
- Plague afflicts the Pangol homeland, and Teytonol is abandoned. She is honourably discharged, and leaves Emshol to become an adventurer/surveillor.
- partners with Ghellim and lives in Rithnidloi (Has miniature Molomet wire-tree).
- spread of The Suppuration
- a bunch of minor crimes, sins, and good actions, the perpetrators of whom she tries to remember and track down during her life. as she ages, her attitude towards some of these actions change.
- some secret relating to The Whispers?
- Errezo's preparations for war?
- something north of Benguyar Mountains?
- some secret in the Giterikin Civil War?
- some secret in the colonies in the Gollow Wastes?
- something related to Anvakai, golgomai, and Varadvai?
