OttD Session 13: Tornac's Bad Day

General Summary

Pestle, Vun Roade, and Zerrof arrive at the alleyway pointed out to them by Izzik in the previous session to find The Drunken Surgeon, disguised as Tornac's wife.   The Drunken Surgeon puts up a dramatic fight, including demonstrating the ability to completely heal their wounds in a single turn and deal damage that cannot be healed by anything short of a long rest. She brings Tornac to the brink of death, but is eventually overwhelmed and flees down a chimney. The remaining party members give chase, and discover the chimney is actually a portal back to Sigil.   The party then swiftly fails a skill challenge to chase down The Drunken Surgeon, now disguised as a drow woman. Pestle uses Dave to discover that she had fled into Gehenna, but they do not have a more precise location than that and thus decide to give up the chase.   Afterwards, the party goes to the temple district and find both the Church of the Broken Wing and the Temple of the Four Winds. Both are founded by beings originally from the Elemental Plane of Air, but the first is dedicated to Penguin and the second to the Dukes of Air. Both have large crowds in front of them, and it is clear a conflict is brewing between the two.   The party then proceeds to a Kenku bar called The Drunken Mongoose and talks to Pixo. Pixo explains that he has faith in Penguin, even if he is not a god yet, and believes that the best way to show him he can work miracles is to force him to make one. He also takes the party to a graveyard, and shows them the grave of his son. He was killed during Session 9: Assault on The Window. He also explains that, since the Kenku are forsaken, when they die no gods will claim their souls. Instead, they are usually sent to Hades, where they are doomed to lose their memories and be turned into slugs.   The party decides to leave town and visit The Cobalt Sanctuary, but are stopped when the marks Penguin "gave" to both Vun Roade and Pestle singed them slightly. They determine that this is some means of enforcing their deal with Penguin, and conclude they must remain in town. Zerrof, who has not yet been marked and expects to miss the next session, elects to proceed on his own to The Cobalt Sanctuary.   Vun Roade and Pestle visit The Window and get Mama Bear to heal their wounds. They then devise a plan to sneak into Temple of the Four Winds and plant 3 magic beans at once to cause "disruption".   Vun Roade removes his armor and sneaks in to the church. He plants the three beans, and rolls 3, then 18, then 99. The effects are:   3: a 30 foot geyser of tea erupts from the ground, lasting 2 rounds 18: a CR9 treant sprouts, and is chaotic evil 99: a square pyramid with a base 60ft long on each side erupts from the ground. within the pyramid lies a sarcophagus. The sarcophagus contains a mummy lord (CR15), and a treasure chosen by the DM   All three of these things take place simultaneously, and the session comes to end. The good news is, the party also hits level 8.
