Stagnum
The floating city of Stagnum sits in the center of the Uncanny Basin, a swamp full of poisonous plants and ravenous beasts. It holds the Magnolia Library, which is where the Cypress Council meets. The city is a hub of knowledge and medical secrets, where new forms of potions and anatomy are being discovered daily. People from all over the world travel there, and since acceptance into one of the four schools of Favus means temporary citizenship, and graduation from one means permanent citizenship, Favus is one of the best countries to join if you are a scholar.
Demographics
Mostly elves, both wood and high elves, since citizenship is easily gained various other races have large populations in Favus, especially in Stagnum. A center for scholars, most citizens of Stangum sell through trades set up through the schools, and are more interested in learning than in making money. The Cypress Council ensures that people live comfortably, and those involved in research deemed important have the money to do experiments, but no one is exceedingly wealthy in Stagnum unless it is through independent trade deals.
Government
Ruled by the Cypress Council, members of the council must graduate from all four schools before they are allowed admittance onto the council, and even than many of the very few graduates go into research or academia rather than into politics. The council rarely reaches more than ten, but also never dips below three.
Defences
The main defense of Stagnum is the difficulty to get to it. In the center of the Uncanny Basin, unless one knows how to navigate the swamp the dangers prevent large groups of people from moving thorugh it.
Infrastructure
Herbal shops and alchemical factories fill Stagnum, and the floating bridges that connect the districts of Stagnum are narrow and crowded with vendors selling rare herbs and animal parts.
History
It took fifty years for the refugees from Apis to reach the center of the Uncanny Basin, and there they found a large pool of stagnant water with banks of dirt creating a honeycomb of foundation. As more people began to join them, they sheltered there and began to build their home, using the boats and rafts they had used to travel the swamp as their base.
Architecture
Floating wood anchored to the base of the swamp, the roots of trees, and overhead walkways all are common to see used as parts of Stagnum's architecture. Some parts of the city break way and sink. Magic is used in the oldest sections to keep it afloat, while some area old fashioned work has been used to shore up the foundation and keep it from sinking.
Geography
A swamp city has access to water, though stagnant means that magic users are used to ensure there is enough fresh water for every one. The humid air nearly chokes people, and stormy days lead to downpours.
Natural Resources
Fish, rare plants, and large monstrous beasts are all common to see around and in Stagnum. Hunters and fishers are used to fending off beasts, and go out in groups of three or more to ensure their own safety.
