King of the ancient yuan-ti empire, the right-hand man of the primordial serpent, and the warlock of The Great Leviathan.
Zhalsuth is born into the ancient yuan-ti empire with staggeringly high innate magical capabilities. He was hatched in a communal pond around the South-East side of Grim. Back then, yuan-ti were raised by their entire civilization. Thus, Zhalsuth's exact parents are unknown.
On his 12th birthday, Zhalsuth is declared as the new shaman of his people (Note: 12 years of age is considered adulthood for yuan-ti).
The Primordial Serpent lessens its watch over Grim in favor of its research into the Fey. In his stead, the serpent calls upon every tribe on Grim to present one candidate to lead as their king. Zhalsuth is selected as his tribe's candidate. This act catches the ire of The Great Leviathan, who thinks that the Serpent is abandoning its people.
Zhalsuth is installed as the king of the yuan-ti by the Primordial Serpent. At the same time, a Yuan-Ti named Yang is chosen as the Serpent's Champion.
Zhalsuth learns of the rising tensions between The Primordial Serpent and The Great Leviathan and travels to the Triton city of Marinas in order to talk to Queen Elryn. His intentions were to broker peace between their two civilizations, and therefore their masters, but he found more than he was looking for- love.
Zhalsuth announces his marriage to Queen Elryn on the day of the new year. In doing so, he forges an alliance between his kingdom and the water-dwelling triton.
Under Zhalsuth, Grim thrives. Their trade with the triton coupled with their eventual access to the Fey blesses them with unimaginable wealth and power. The nation enjoys its peace in relative solitude and seclusion.
A revolution takes place in the deep city of Marinas. The Triton continued to blame the Leviathan (and now Elryn) for the lack of resources. This culminates in a peasant uprising. The imposing of Elryn as a Queen had created the divide the Triton were trying to avoid in the first place. The revolution ends after 10 drawn-out years after the combined effort of the entire Triton people manages to kill The Great Leviathan. Elryn escapes the chaos with Zhalsuth and takes refuge in Grim.
The Primordial Serpent is warned of the collision event by his champion, Yang, and decided to escape into the Fey. In doing so, the Primordial Serpent abandons the yuan-ti to die.
Zhalsuth spends what he believes to be the rest of his life trying to prevent the collision event.
Zhalsuth's efforts are redirected into saving himself, rather than his people. He succeeds, making him one of the few mortal beings to survive the great collision.
A fallen star crashes into Bastion, wiping out all existing civilizations on Rhune and crippling the power of all primordials. Only 10% of life remained after this event, and even less are still around today.
Stricken with grief over the loss of his kingdom and wife, as well as the abandonment of his master, Zhalsuth roams the face of Rhune for 100 years.
The Great Leviathan, now without physical form and existing only in the ethereal plane, gifts Zhalsuth with the Book of the Leviathan
Zhalsuth launches his training with the Book of the Leviathan. Using his knowledge of the old world, he travels far and wide, collecting many powerful magic items. He also sets up a base of operations inside of the corpse of the Great Leviathan.
The Great Leviathan finally tells Zhalsuth about the other books of the Leviathan. The only information he has to go off is that one is somewhere on Grim while another was lost at sea. If Zhalsuth is to resurrect the Leviathan, he'll need those books.
Salethar recruits Allak and Zhalsuth for everyone's mutual gain. This marks the starting point of the "The Assembly of Grim" campaign.
