Mars
Mars is the fourth planet in the Sol System and the second smallest planet in Earth's solar system. It is the capital of the Martian Technocratic League, and headquarters a number of influential corporations including Cydonia Manufacturing and the Kusanagi Corporation.
History
Mars was settled in the 21st century by Global Union expeditions, which gradually grew the human presence on the planet. By the late 22nd century, a number of large domed cities were established, three of which were destroyed along with nearly half the planet via orbital bombardment in the early days of the Siliconian war in 2185. A number of Siliconian hives were established on Mars, but were all destroyed by 2220. Mars gained independence in 2225 after a persistent resistance movement covertly supported by the hegemonic Genesis corporation. It primarily existed politically as a collection of city states under the protection of the Galactic Union of Space Forces until roughly the turn of the century, at which point it coalesced officially into the Martian Technocratic League, ending its political involvement with the GUSF.Environment
Originally uninhabitable for humans, it has been heavily terraformed, first by the Global Union and later by the GUSF and the Martian Technocratic League, rendering it safe for human life. Mars originally had two moons, Phobos and Deimos, but they were destroyed by the GU during the early terraforming of Mars.
