House d'Honaire

House d'Honaire is the second-smallest of the Aurelian Empire's Four Great Noble Families and is one of the "turncoat" families that fought against the Crown during the War of Four Suits. The d'Honaire's reside in their estate, Palast Arkan.

Assets

House d'Honaire exports sugarcane, reeds, leather goods, and a variety of potent medicinal herbs and tonics farmed from its many marshes and wetlands and is essential to the Empire's long-term survival.

History

During the War of Four Suits, Duke Desmond d'Honaire joined forces with Duke Scorpius Brutoris' rebellion against Empress Eunisia Rosewood.  Following the conclusion of the War in 1372 AB, although portions of House d'Honaire's assets and lands were stripped away, they managed to retain their title and position after Duke d'Honaire confessed his trespasses and swore under arcane oath that he would never raise a hand to the crown again. His statements were highly scrutinized and many agreed that it was all an act to avoid execution, but in spite of this, the Empress granted him clemency. He would continue to quietly rule until he passed away and was succeeded by his daughter Vesper.

Demography and Population

Clovergarde's wetlands are largely unpopulated. Instead, they are home to savage clans of lizardfolk and gatorfolk who viciously defend their territory.

Territories

House d'Honaire governs Clovergarde, the second smallest of the Empire's territories. There are only a few consecutive miles of (relatively) dry land at any time in Clovergarde. The rest of the territory is made up of wetlands, dark marshes, and treacherous stretches of mire. This perpetual wetness is only made worse by Seraphix's general proclivity to rain.

Military

Clovergarde is a well-known center of arcane study, and House d'Honaire's personal army, as well as its bannermen are trained in war magic. Their arcane prowess was a large part of why the Brutoris Rebellion was so successful in the early stages of the War of Four Suits.
