Daniel Canaan

The Blind Typhoon, Captain of the Leviathan Daniel Canaan

He was the only captain I knew, and the grandest of all Admirals. Whether his decisions made sense, morally or logically, I'm no judge. All I know is that when a battle comes, a distinctive battle cry will inspire his crews to victory.
-Askitil Mapilton
Hero of the Requian Coast, Daniel Canaan was an outlaw of the countryside known as Rowthorn. As a member and leader of Tempest's End, he transformed into an admiral and the savior of the coast's kingdoms and isles. After securing a place among the heroes of the Astral Court, he was resurrected to begin a legion of Rangers to explore and protect the Astral Sea and the undiscovered realms of the Barren.

Physical Description

There was a time when Daniel was most known for his brown cowboy hat, but it was given to Hew Danson. Now he fashions a rough leather trenchcoat, hiding a string of holsters- each carrying a unique firearm with magical properties. To better use his skills as the Blind Typhoon, Daniel also keeps a red handkerchief around his neck for him to lift and cover his eyes. His right leg is missing, replaced with a prosthetic (see Powers & Abilities) and he has lightning scars running across his entire body (see Powers & Abilities).

Mental Description

Though he's usually seen as childish and immoral, Daniel can be incredibly sensible when he's needed to take himself and his allies out of disaster. He has a great sense of loyalty and respect that garners tight relationships with his crews. He's well known for his motivational speeches and his battle cry: "HEEEEHAAAAAAW."

Powers & Abilities

The Blind Typhoon - Trained by the Quiet Typhoon, Daniel had the talent to aim accurately without his vision which he practiced to better enhance with his mentor. Now Daniel's ability of perception is exponentially increased when he's blinded, allowing him to pinpoint any hidden enemy from far distances. He was also gifted a prosthetic leg that could reload pistols that were handed to it.   Firearmory - Daniel has a large number of weapons that he keeps strapped to his body at all times. Each carries their own story and abilities, but his favorite is a shotgun that can be extended into a marksman rifle.   Sorcery - During Sea of Storms, Daniel was struck by a bolt of lightning that transformed him into a Stormborn. Daniel has yet to discover what his powers may be.

Pre-Sea of Storms (Campaign 2)

Born on a small farm in the city of Wilpbue, Daniel was raised around boring scenery and by boring people (though little did he know his family was Faerie Hunters, not yet ready to train young Daniel and rope them into their hunt for revenge). He was fed up with the inaction and ran away, joining a gang (see sidebar) and began robbing merchant caravans and rich folks' manors. After a failed job and the gang's leader dead, the outlaws decide to take ships separately (to not get caught as a group) to the richest region in the world, the Requian Coast, and hideout until they reunited later. While sailing out of the continent, Daniel discovered a bizarre lab filled with tall glass cases filled and capped with a green bubbly fluid. Out of these various cases, only one was of note, one that contained a mutated hammerhead shark- Daniel freed this friend and named him Bubbles. He had the body of a shark, but the front and hind legs were not too dissimilar to a dog. Once he became reunited with his gang (now led by Jack Edwards), they set off for their first job which went horribly wrong. The gang was separated, leaving Daniel getting caught and thrown into Waerytomb Prison.

Sea of Storms

While in prison, Daniel met fellow prisoners who would join him for a prison break and form the adventuring party that would later be known as Tempest's End. He would rob, shoot, and steal while traveling with the group, occasionally finding old gang members who'd moved on and found their own life on the coast. After saving the prince of the Kraken Cliffs from the same assassin that killed the king, he became his mentor and new father figure, slowly turning Daniel into a more reputable man (emphasis on slowly). He would also go on to become the leader of the party since after the death of Richard Handcock and the destruction of the Pumpernickel, he was selected to be the new captain of their next vessel the Leviathan. At the end of this era in his life he had formed a fleet of ships that would be used to claim the major cities of the Pirate Syndicate and discover the truth of his family. His brother Trevor was tasked to bring him back to the farm before he could do any more damage to their mission, killing the Faerie Merchant Clement who kidnapped one of Daniel's ancestors as a child (later to be discovered as being one of the members of Tempest's End). He would go on to kill Clement himself and prove to his family that he was more than what they made out of him.

Post Sea of Storms

With Prince Hew becoming Emperor Hew, the Phoenix Emperor of the New Requian Empire, Daniel was promoted to Head Admiral of the empire's fleets and Hew's personal bodyguard. He trained Hew to become the next Typhoon (the Royal Typhoon) and fought by his side on various quests around the coast. It was one of these missions that fell Daniel for the second time. Reports from the Fall Isles brought news of the Hell Portal becoming unstable- requesting the assistance of Emperor Hew, his guard (Daniel included), the Kraken Priest (Arceaus Longthorn), and their formal party member Davia Starswallow to investigate. They found the island holding the portal overtaken by demonic forces, the company was forced to fight them back and reach the portal so that Arceaus could force it closed once and for all. During this mission, Daniel took a hit for Hew, a piercing claw in his chest, killing him nearly instantly. A funeral took place soon after, and a week after he arose from the grave. The astral projection of Merlin appeared to him telling the adventurer that he had a guaranteed spot among the Arcane Court once he died, but offered him a unique position before he joined them: go on to form a crew and new faction to explore the Astral Sea to act as the hands of the Astral Court. Daniel was gifted a flying vessel with a hammerhead design. Without a word to the others, he found his old gang members and set off into the stars.

The Silver Symphony (Campaign 3)

In the 150s, Daniel was challenged by the Gunslinging God to a duel. He had heard of Daniel's skills with his pistols and was interested in how their skills would compare. With Daniel never being the kind to turn down a challenge, he took his shot- but not before the God to take his. Once he agreed the duel began, the God launched a bullet that would fly until it reached and killed its target. Daniel began to travel across the Barren to outrun the bullet and find a way to win the duel.
