Lavernus is an everyman in Korosa who has worked many jobs and has many connections. He spends most of his time looking after his friends or family or working at the Seagrape Winery.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Lavernus isn't the biggest or the strongest (though he is quite tall), but he has good stamina and maintains a generally healthy lifestyle. He may seem shaggy, but that's more due to a busy schedule than any lack of hygiene or self-care. Shaving is secondary to helping Yasmine around the house or preparing meals for his family.
Apparel & Accessories
Lavernus keeps up with the local fashion trends. Right now, that means dressing in an Amahitzan style, and so he has opted for the cosmopolitan Safehold style, with many layers (a bold choice in the Expanse) and muted colors.

Education
Lavernus was educated by the relatively poor Alwood family, so his family lost the race for the best tutors, leaving Lavernus with sub-optimal instruction. Even still, Lavernus is a quick-wit and a fast learner, which allowed him to put together bits of information that his tutors didn't teach him on his own.
Employment
Lavernus bounced around between jobs quite a bit during his younger years. He worked as a guard, and then as a clothier, tried his hand at infixing under Ogilvie, and spent some time as an alchemist at Bubbling Seawater, where he met Dorsey Maydlow and, through her, Rashona. Now, he works at Seagrape Winery, both tending the bar and assisting Lloyd with brewing the wine itself.
Failures & Embarrassments
Lavernus' parents died early in his life, leaving him to be raised by his aunt and uncle. Because he struggled to fit in with his family without his parents, Lavernus leapt at the opportunity to tie himself to the Maydlow family, and married Rashona. It was a political thing, mostly. Lavernus would escape to a more comfortable environment, the Alwood family would receive a dowry (as Lavernus was the one changing his surname, and not Rashona), and the Maydlow family would have a certain ally despite their somewhat unfavorable reputation. His marriage to Rashona was a loveless one, however, and though he sired a child - Viera Maydlow - not even that was enough to prevent Rashona from treating their relationship as strictly business, and eventually abandoning him for Kian Abither. This was embarrassing to Lavernus, as it made him appear to be the fool who Rashona was only using as a stepping stone to higher power.
Remaining connected to the Maydlow family through adoption afterwards didn't help, causing rumors to spread that he lacked a spine and that anything could be taken from him without complaint. He was the center of local gossip after his divorce, and some of that stigma has stuck to this day.

Lavernus is a decent man. He is respectful, dependable, and caring. He sometimes comes across as messy or insincere, but he'll be where he's needed and he'll do what he has to even to his own detriment.

Family Ties
Lavernus is the ex-husband of Rashona Abither, the husband of Althea Maydlow, and the father of Viera, Melissa, and Dorsey Maydlow. After his divorce with Rashona, her mother Yasmin Maydlow officially adopted him to keep him and Viera officially in the Maydlow family.
Social Aptitude
Although his standing in the Korosa social scene has a few stains on it, Lavernus maintains a charming persona, and has friends all across the city. He is a little lacking in proper etiquette, but people don't seem to mind his breaches of propriety most of the time.
