Thetos, God of Sleep (THAY-tohs)

Lord Thetos , God of Sleep

Thetos is the God of Sleep, and one of the minor deities of the universe.

Divine Domains

Sleep

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Similar to Erebos, Thetos is slim, tall, and possesses little muscle mass. Thetos's most striking feature is his lack of a face — instead, his face and skin are made up of various, abstract, swirling patterns, in hues of purple and dark blue. Looking directly at his face for more than several seconds causes drowsiness, and will eventually put the onlooker into a deep sleep. This effect partially extends to the other gods; they have the willpower to resist, but they still avoid making eye(?) contact with Thetos for this reason. (Sophia is able to negate this effect, allowing for normal conversation.)

Special abilities

  • Amnesia Inducement/Memory Erasure/Identity Erasure
  • Awakening: Thetos can awaken anyone from slumber, no matter how deep.
  • Confusion Inducement
  • Dreamlessness: Thetos cannot dream. The depth and quality of his sleep doesn't matter; he is unable to have either dreams or nightmares. Therefore, he is fascinated by the idea of dreams and the stories Sophia has to tell about them, whether they're her own dreams or the dreams of another individual.
  • Dream Negation/Suppression: Thetos can suppress or negate an individual's ability to dream.
  • Dream Observation
  • Dream Walking
  • Oneiric Omnipresence
  • Oneiric Slaying: By killing someone in a dream, Thetos can cause brain death in an individual, leaving them in a vegative state. This effect is irreversible. Thetos has never used this ability, and refuses to out of principle.
  • Oneiric Teleportation: Thetos can teleport anywhere within a dream, or teleport into someone else's dream.
  • Eternal Slumber Inducement
  • Fatigue Inducement
  • Healing Coma: Thetos can place others into a healing coma if they need emergency treatment or suffer a mortal injury. This slows most of their body processes to almost a complete stop, but speeds up their healing ability to an unfathomable degree.
  • Insomnia Inducement
  • Omni-Sleep Inducement: Thetos has the ability to put anyone or anything to sleep, including people, plants, and even machinery or robots. This extends to creatures who do not normally need sleep.
  • Omni-Telepathy
  • Personal Sleep Manipulation: Thetos has the ability to control all aspects of his own sleep (even while asleep). He can turn these various effects on and off at will. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Circadian Rhythm Manipulation (his own)
    • Sleep Depth Manipulation (his own)
    • Sleeplessness (himself)
    • Sleep Quality Manipulation (his own)
  • Sleep Combat: Thetos can fight while asleep, no matter how deep in slumber he is.
  • Sleep Embodiment
  • Sleep Negation
  • Sleep Paralysis Inducement
  • Telekinesis
  • Total Hypnosis: Thetos can induce a state of total hypnosis in an individual, whether they realize it or not. This can be used to put others under his control, or it may be used to create an illusion that envelops all five senses.
    • Illusion Inducement/Manipulation
    • Hallucination Inducement
  • Godly Condition: Minor or not, Thetos is still a god. As such, he is afforded the same natural boosts as all of the gods:
    • Divine Form: Like all of the gods, Thetos can gather all of his essence in one place, and shift into his true form. This form is unknown by anyone other than the gods, as well as immortal races such as angels and devils; upon seeing it, an individual would disintegrate into nothing but ash.
    • Godly Detection/Perception: Thetos can sense both life force and magic, regardless of cloaking, illusion, or any other means that would render the user invisible or untraceable. The only individual he and the other gods cannot detect is Eris.
    • Godly Magic: The only one more powerful than Thetos in terms of magical power and ability is Eris.
    • Godly Reflexes: Thetos's reflexes are impossible to outpace. Only Eris is faster.
    • Godly Regeneration: Thetos's natural regeneration of injuries and wounds is much faster than that of any race, allowing him to heal even near-mortal wounds within seconds.
    • Godly Senses: Thetos's senses are among the best in the universe. This includes better sight, better sense of hearing, taste, smell, and touch.
    • Godly Speed: Thetos's speed is impossible to match. Only Eris is faster than him.
    • Godly Stamina: Thetos's stamina is nearly unlimited. Only Eris can outlast him.
    • Godly Strength: There is nearly no upper limit to the feats of strength Thetos can perform. Only Eris is stronger.
    • Ichor Properties: Rather than blood, Thetos posesses ichor, a golden fluid and the blood of the gods.
    • Immortality: While Thetos can be wounded, he can never truly die, and will resurrect even if his body is utterly destroyed.
    • Multipresence: Thetos has the ability to be in multiple places at once, doing many different tasks at the same time.
    • Omnilingualism: As a god, Thetos can inherently speak and comprehend all languages, even code languages.
    • Teleportation, Type VI: Thetos can teleport almost anywhere, covering lightyear distances on a cosmic scale. He can take mass up to the size of a skyscraper with him when teleporting.

Apparel & Accessories

Thetos generally wears a long dark robe, similar to that of Erebos's, that reaches to the ground, hiding his legs and feet.

Specialized Equipment

Unlike many of the other gods, Thetos mainly performs magic barehanded. He does have a wooden staff that he can use for magic, but it has no name or special qualities.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Thetos was created by Eris at the beginning of the universe, and tasked with helping create the universe. From the beginning, Thetos had a special guardian-like bond with Sophia, the Goddess of Dreams. He felt an inherent need to protect and watch over her, and would usually go along with whatvever Sophia asked of him. Regarding the genesis of the universe, he did not intervene at first, as Evelyn and Erebos volunteered. After Evelyn and Erebos went to war due to different views between their children, Thetos was one of the ones that watched on in worry for his siblings. When the Light-Dark war ended, Thetos was asked, along with the other gods, to continue making the universe.   Unlike many of the other gods, Thetos intervened very little; most of his work was done through conversation with Sophia, who then took action based on their brainstorming sessions. After all was said and done, Thetos was one of the gods that wished to return to the Realm of the Gods, seeing his and Sophia's work completed. However, Eris refused to follow, declaring that he would remain in the mortal world to meddle around and observe as he saw fit. Thetos, among the other gods, tried to convince Eris that leaving the world to grow on its own was the best choice, but he refused to heed their words. While the other gods took up arms against Eris, Thetos did not participate, upon Sophia's personal request. He instead watched passively, and did nothing.    The War of the Gods is often colloquially called the "Ten-Minute War", due to the speed and fury with which the other gods were beaten by Eris. As with his intervention in the Light-Dark war, he was merciless and brutal in his retaliation, and it is said that after the war was over, Eris was nearly bent on erasing the universe, along with the other gods, deeming it a failure, thanks to both the Light-Dark war and the Ten-Minute war. However, he hesitated, as he cared for his new family. The other gods begged him to reconsider, and Thetos watched as Sophia poured her heart out to Eris, to try and convince him to let the universe be. Emotionally spent, Eris acquiesced. With Sophia's help and Thetos's oversight, a treaty between the gods was formed, stating that, excepting any major existential threat to their creation, Eris was not to interfere. However, he could remain in the world of mortals to observe.    At some point after the Ten Minute War, Sophia began to suffer frequent abuse at the hands of Silas, the God of War. Thetos, her ever-faithful companion and guardian, was unaware of this at first, and when he eventually found out, Silas warned him to keep his mouth shut or he'd abuse Thetos too. Thetos was frustrated, worried, and felt helpless, but he knew that, were it to come to conflict, Silas would inevitably win. For a long time, he watched as Sophia suffered this abuse, but could do nothing. Curiously, despite all the abuse, Sophia never shifted into Pandora during this period. Fortunately, one day, Silas was caught abusing Sophia by Eris. This drove Eris into such an interminable rage that he asked to speak to Silas, alone. What happened between Eris and Silas is still unknown, but after that day, Silas never abused or even bullied Sophia ever again, and for this, both Sophia and Thetos are incredibly loyal and grateful to Eris.    Contrary to the treaty, Thetos regularly spends time in the world of mortals, accompanying Sophia wherever she goes. However, the other gods seemingly take no issue with this.

He generally only wants to see people comfortable or happy. Save for his fierce loyalty to Eris and Sophia, he's not very outspoken.

History

Thetos was created by Eris at the beginning of reality. Thetos always enjoyed Eris's presence, but after Eris rescued Sophia from Silas's bullying, his loyalty and admiration to Eris only grew. Eris enjoys hanging out with Thetos, even if the other gods "don't get" him, especially since Thetos is always accompanied by Sophia and vice versa.

History

Felicia and Thetos were created together by Eris at the beginning of reality. Felicia is markedly put off by Thetos's lack of facial features, and it flies in the face of everything she values about appearance. Thetos sees Felicia as shallow, and despite their mutual protectiveness of Sophia, they often disagree about exactly how she should be protected (which usually ends with Sophia acting as mediator).

History

Shannon and Thetos were created together by Eris at the beginning of reality. Although Thetos and Shannon like each other, Thetos often ends up unintentionally intimidating Shannon, much to his dismay. Shannon finds it hard to tell what Thetos is thinking or what his mood is like, since he lacks facial features, and so has to guess from his tone of voice and body language what his current mood is. Both wish there was a better way to get across their intentions.
