Situated east of the Crags and west of the Nevermoors, Longrun was founded over three centuries ago by Shardra Harpell, an escaped Calishite slave. This tiny agricultural hamlet of 130 people, 1100 if outlying farms and ranches are considered, is even today most famously known as the home to the Harpell family which has produced a number of influential mages in the North. The village Elder, Ardanac Harpell, dwells in the Ivy Mansion, the Harpell’s ancestral home, high on a hill in the center of Longrun. The hamlet has a daily farmers market, a way-stable, a stirrup maker and bell-caster, and The Gilded Horseshoe, an inn noted for its hospitality and its defensible wooden palisade. Local stories tell of griffins preying upon cattle, horses, and long runners who stray too far from local ranches. Sometimes confused with Longforge, another small community to the south, the resulting ditty of "Going to the forge or going to the run" has long been a local idiom the same as "Watch where you are going" or "Watch your step" in other places.
Noted for beef and mutton, several large ranches continue to expand and encroaching further into the forest around Longrun inhabited by werewolf descendants of Bidderdoo Harpell. These werewolves are called "the Bidderdoos" and although locals fear them, they have provided some measure of protection for them against the monster held frontiers in the past. Long runners, ranch-hands, from surrounding estates, can be summoned to form a militia of 100 men. Most fight with spear or bow. Griffons living in the nearby hills prey upon livestock and have slain residents of farm holds from time to time throughout the hamlet’s history. Orc and Griffon tribe Barbarian raids are rare, thanks to the Bidderdoos, but do occur with annoying frequency.
