A little over ten thousand souls are governed by the Council of Elders in this walled “open city” to the south of Carona Borealis on prestigious beautiful shores of Lake Lyceum. It was founded by the surviving Netheran Council shortly after they lost nearly half their people in a battle to save the north from the invasion by a massive orc and goblin raiding hordes. Located at a natural pinch point marking the entrance to Ashen Bones Pass and the orc held lands of The Bleeding Fields, Nethlore continues to be the first line of defense against overland incursions from farther north to this day. The home of many caravan master, adventurer, and tradesmen who have made a living bringing goods from the dwarves of Granitforge Citadel or from the occasional plunder of orc holds and savaging one of the forgotten ruins to be found beyond the Elderpeaks Mountains. Overlooking Lyceum new generations study at The Academy of Sciences. By far the largest and best-defended structure in Nethlore its students and faculty continue to learn, experiment, and study ways to live a life without the need of magic. As in Freehold, the folk of Nethlore are tolerant of other peoples, races, and religions, but only to a point. They must be constantly wary of Hauthian and Maugulach raiders along with other things which lurk in the wilds attacking or infiltrating them and, without the benefit of the magical wards used in Freehaven, are initially much less trusting than their southern neighbors.
