Vezulva

Unioninvaders
The vezulva are descendants of Greenborn Sapie who left Plenty just 10 years after the first Sky Ships were created. Driven apart by philosophical differences, they left their home and arrived on the island of Union where they remained in isolation for more than a century. During this period of isolation, the vezulva developed into the beings they are today.

The reptile men of Union are feared and stereotyped throughout the Skies as remorseless killers, horrible cannibals, and godless savages. In truth, the vezulva take no pleasure in killing, but have lost the ability to empathize or emote due to their reptilian evolution. The lens of the vezulva is one completely coloured by survival, both of their scattered basks, and of the larger environment in which they live. Vezulva do relentlessly attack any who step foot on their island, but this is due to their history with the attempted colonization of their island by Molten Heart in the year 300. Within that short time, the Gobi and Doro invaders wreaked havoc upon the environment near their settlements, causing ripples that could be felt through the entire island. The short lived but brutal conflict taught the vezulva that outsiders pose a great danger to their island home, and must be eradicated to ensure their survival.

Vezulva are the only Greenborn who eat meat, with only a few customs surviving through hundreds of years of reptilian evolution. The way the vezulva intemperate the morals of their ancestors seems frankly alien or obtuse to other Greenborn, who view the vezulva as at best, cousins who have lost their way, or at worst, a cruel mockery of their deeply held cultural beliefs. The vezulva maintain the customs of freely sharing resources and communal minded-living, as it is a strategy that has proved useful for the survival of their species as a whole. The taboo against eating or using animal parts for manufacturing became irrelevant to the vezulva hundreds of years ago, as their view the consumption of meat as a natural fact of life, as they are animals as well. Vezulva are skilled artisans of bone, and make sure to use every inch of the animals they kill, crafting weapons, armor, and a variety of tools out of their prey.
In some ways, the vezulva are more connected to the natural world than most other Greenborn, as they tirelessly shepherd the animal populations of their island as to maintain the delicate balance of the swamp's ecosystem. As a result the vezulva take only what they need to survive from the wild, enough to keep their current population stable and well fed. Occasionally, rough years, where taking enough to survive would jeopardize the health of the island, force vezulva basks to range across the land-bridge that connects both halves of Union, and raid the Aliyuk for additional resources. Such actions have led the Aliyuk to view the vezulva unfavorably.

The vezulva have a strange connection to the Source Dragon who shares their portion of the island, Wise Olamog of the Swamp. The dragon provides the lizard folk with advice and guidance in matters where their reptilian minds struggle to find solutions. In dire situations, the dragon also grants a chosen few vezulva some of it's own elemental magic, transforming them into powerful sorcerers. Occasionally, Wise Olamog of the Swamp will send a chosen few vezulva off the island, usually to retrieve an artifact or herb of some importance. In such situations, Wise Olamog enchants one or more of the wyverns who live on Union's volcano, so that they may serve as mounts for his chosen servant.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Vezulva have humanoid bodies and crocodile like heads. They have long necks that allow them a greater range of rotation. Their bodies are covered in thick scales, clustering into dense patterns that resemble natural armor plating, and rows of spines protrude from their backs. When standing upright, their posture hunches forward. They have wide, barrel chests, long muscular arms, and comparably smaller. yet no less muscular, legs.

Genetics and Reproduction

Vezulva give birth to live young, and their gestation period is almost identical to Sapie.

Growth Rate & Stages

Vezulva grow quicker than Sapie, reaching maturity at 14. Rarely do vezulva live past the age of 70, but those granted power by Wise Olamog of the Swamp tend to live unnaturally long lifespans.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Vezulva have regained the ability to consume raw meat without negative consequences, but prefer to cook their food when they can. Due to their environment, the diet of the vezulva is almost completely meat based, but they still retain the ability to eat edible vegetables and plants. Vezulva require slightly more than Sapie during their initial growth period, but need less food later in life.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Vezulva have a second set of vertical eyelids under their primary eyelids. These secondary lids allow the vezulva to see more clearly in the brackish water of their swamp, as well as providing them protection against salt water.
