Ilven, The Misguided High Priestess
Ilven is a Myotling with fiery sunset Monarch butterfly wings.
Ilven met with the Spiritual Travelers on Nurend 15, 308 after the group was confirmed to no longer be a threat by her knight, Logren. She displayed her arrogant personality and quirk to never take the lead. After inviting them back to Thera Relovut, Ilven showed them an unusual statue and explained why she took her sister, Tympi. She claims it was to "protect her from herself" as Tympi was overly trusting of outsiders. While revealing this to the Spiritual Travelers, offering to heal their wounds and provide them the choice of what happens to Tympi, she was taken by The Unblinking Sein despite being its supposed master until recently. She's now missing, though it is unclear what exactly happened to Tympi.
Ilven supposedly gave instructions to several Myotlings to kidnap tourists from the new Gate Camp. These myotlings appeared to be thwarted by the Camp Directors on Nurend 26, 308, it is unclear if she truly gave this order or why she did so in the first place. It seems she needs these outsiders for something, and knowing her xenophobic nature, it is likely not something good.
Ilven must have gotten her hands on some of the outsiders as the Spiritual Travelers encountered several Myotlings and Outsiders cutting down trees in Tympi's Forest on Nurend 30, 308. These modified lumberjacks, called Uginot ec Mlet in one of the journals in camp, seemed designed to look as much like the outsiders they once were...though the disguise isn't very good. They are apparently mostly made of plants. According to the journals found at the logging camp, Ilven needed these creatures to cut down the Mothlight Trees, and, according to the myotling refugee, there seems to be some motivation to cause discourse and frame these outsiders for these crimes.
Ilven was "defeated" or freed from the Unblinking Sein's influence on Daulok 02, 308. Hysteria was able to guide her from the depths of her mind back to her body. She seemed relunctant to do so as she muttered things about how there is "no way back" or "no way out", but Hysteria snapped her out of it. As she was freed and separated from this spirit, the myotlings around her gradually regained their senses and, after a brief conversation, agreed to "head home" once more. The myotlings, and especially Ilven, will finally return to their homes in the Mothlights.
History
Contesting Croak
She started a bit of a revolution against Croak after he was elected the successor of Tympi's Forest. Ilven firmly believes that the forest should belong to her due to her being Tympi's sister. She has been leading a slowly developing conflict between herself and Croak for the last 50 years. Her followers call Croak "The Usurper" and hold her as the one true Queen of the Forest (after Tympi, anyways).Ilven met with the Spiritual Travelers on Nurend 15, 308 after the group was confirmed to no longer be a threat by her knight, Logren. Consumed by the Unblinking Sein
Ilven's voice and wings were heard when the Spiritual Travelers encountered the Unblinking Sein on Nurend 19, 308. She said that "There is no escape. There is no way back." though her body was never seen.Ilven supposedly gave instructions to several Myotlings to kidnap tourists from the new Gate Camp. The Howdigo
During the day on Daulok 24th, the Spiritual Travelers visited Ilven to gather information about this Spiraling Darkness that threatens to cover the Spirit World. She didn't have much insight beyond speculation, but she did have a concern that her sister would be consumed by it if the Mothlight Trees continued to be covered in the darkness. She worried that it might drag her out into the darkness, piece by piece, and that her unresolved issues could wander the land beyond. She also revealed that her sister was dealing with yet another beast... “There is something I must tell you as well, travelers. There were times when I slept that I felt your presence…times that I felt my sister’s mind was in peril, but you were always there to pull her out of it. I am awake now, I cannot tell what she is experiencing, but I feel her journey back to us is not yet over. With the Spiraling Dark outside worsening, consuming Mothlight Trees, her condition will likely only worsen, and the parts of her consciousness that are still yet recovered may wander the land beyond. I don’t know entirely what that means, but if there is any guidance I can offer it is this: When I at last awoke, she was struggling with something particularly jarring… a beast made of tendrils that surrounded her entire journey up to this point. All the battles won or lost, the conversations she’s had, the memories she has relived…even ones that have not been experienced yet are all wrapped within this beast, and she is now, um, content within its maw. It devours her even now, swallowing who she was and who she could’ve been. "I could help you reach her, but you may find yourselves battling your contentment along the way. Unraveling the complicated tendrils and freeing yourself from its maws to arrive at Tympi’s only peril… It will be dangerous, frustrating, and probably confusing, but you would be doing everyone here a service by finally freeing her. You would certainly helping yourselves along the way if you plan on going into that darkness. If I were more focused with her awake, I could shield you, at least partially, from corruption. Will you do this?” After explaining this, she revealed that she could protect these travelers against the darkness. She claimed she had experience with such darkness, and she felt as though she might know how to keep them from being corrupted while inside. However, she was distracted, worried about her sister, and she would need help freeing her before she can perform the ritual. Tympi also being safe would be a bonus...perhaps she can provide even more protection or information. The travelers agreed to enter Tympi's mind and performed some light downtime activity until it was time to sleep.Physical Description
Body Features
It was discovered in Tympi's Journal that Ilven has the appearance of a very pale skinned and tall Myotling. She apparently has fiery colored monarch butterfly wings, is about the same height as Tympi at 6 feet tall, and has pure black eyes.
A painting in Tympi's House likely features Ilven as it has a fairy of similar height as Tympi with monarch butterly wings. This painting has provided a more clear visual on Ilven.
Apparel & Accessories
Her clothing features a gold scale pattern over her shoulders and on an underlayer of clothing visible on her arms from just above the elbow and down. She is also wearing a dress which is ankle length, has sleeves reaching to just above the elbow, and has tattered edges along the ankles and sleeves. This dress is made of Dark red Coleus leaves with yellow trim.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Ilven, along with Tympi's Journal, revealed that her and her sister fell from "someplace else" as mere caterpillars before metamorphosing into the fae they are today. When asked about where exactly she "came from", Ilven was unable to provide any details about the place, but commented that "I don't think where i was before matters at least not to me. I care more about where I'm going."
From what's been observed, Ilven always seems to come second, or, at the very least, not be first. She entered The Gates immediately after her sister, wasn't "chosen" by the forest the way Tympi was, she wasn't chosen by Tympi's Court the way Croak was, she didn't discover the Statue/Omen (one of her scouts did), and any time she enters an area (including her carriage) she always has someone else go first which was observed when she had the Spiritual Travelers enter and exit her carriage first or had Logren appear before them before she did. This is all in direct contrast to Tympi being a guide for any who need her.
Morality & Philosophy
Her love for her sister and the forest is well known, and she has claimed she would go to great lenghts to protect them both. When speaking with the Spiritual Travelers, she has even stated that "sometimes you have to do dreadful things to keep the ones you love safe".
She has a sense of entitlement when it comes to the forest, feeling that she should have been the next one to lead since her sister was chosen. This entitlement has led her to starting a revolution against Croak, though no casualties or conflicts have been seen from this war yet aside from a small group attempting to kidnap him.
She has a stern hatred of outsiders as demonstrated by the conversation that the Spiritual Travelers had with her on Nurend 15, 308. She believes that outsiders will lead to the destruction of the forest, the death of her sister, and a new Era of Darkness for the whole of The Gates. Because of this, she was incredibly suspicious of the six adventurers in her Cottage and had been keeping an eye on them while they traveled the forest. She has claimed that outsiders would always get Tympi into difficult situations, but didn't seem to mind Basil too much.
This hatred of outsiders comes from the aforementioned overprotectiveness of her sister combined with a dark omen that one of her scouts discovered before Thera Relovut was settled or Tympi disappeared.
Social
Social Aptitude
She has a "knows better", "looking down her nose at you" type attitude, but she runs her world with great care for every Myotling, almost like a mother or an older sister. She cares deeply about every creature, plant, everything in the forest, and would go to great lengths to keep them all safe.
