Pendros Ildrafn
Duke Pendros Sidan Ildrafn
Duke of Whitecliff, Baron of Rhythavn, leader of House Ildrafn. 53 years of age. Born 1389.
Agreeable, Weary, Stealthy. A proficient hunter and schemer. Seeks to protect Iseabail McCloughhaven from House Antyre's machinations (or wrath, if it comes to that)
Mental characteristics
Mental Trauma
During the Tambar Rebellion, Pendros and his immediate family retreated to the safety of the walls of Rhythavn Castle... but it would not save them all. During their months of isolation, his wife Sibilia Ildrafn took deeply ill, and the doctor they had sought to have sequestered away with them had been caught and killed by Tambarists. Powerless, Pendros could do little but watch his beloved Sibilia waste away. She is interred underneath the castle.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Pendros is determined to resolve the dispute over McCloughhaven's Reach before it spirals into open conflict. He is unsure whether or not Ildrafn can withstand a direct assault from Antyre's armies, and after being bled by the Tambar Rebellion he knows the strength of his forces still needs time to recover.
Savvies & Ineptitudes
Pendros is very, very hard to read. An agreeable smile is almost always found upon his lips, and he rarely shows anger or despair even when the situation might call for it. He's an adept player at court politics and diplomatic maneuvering, and has even served Eadvard III as an envoy to distant Dunefalle on more than one occasion.
Social
Contacts & Relations
Pendros' baronic vassals are Bevan Oake, Zura Luneste and Sabine Dillestone, each of whom respectfully send him taxes and levies as the seasons turn. Of them all, Sabine remains the hardest to read, rarely making social calls outside of those she is obliged to appear for. Pendros makes sure to pay close attention whenever Zura is visiting Rhythavn Castle, as the former corsair is possessed of a temper and disposition as volatile as the waves. Bevan is often contented with old war stories, though the actions of House Ildrafn (or lack therof) during the Tambar Rebellion may have changed Bevans views on Ildrafn somewhat.
Pendros is also on good terms with Mireille Luneste, after having negotiated a marriage between his daughter Altheia Ildrafn and her son Ghalen.
Family Ties
Pendros is close with his brother Kuron Ildrafn, even though their families have grown in wildly different ways since Kuron departed to assumed control of the Barony of Catena. When The Tambar Rebellion broke out, Pendros called his family to shelter themselves within the walls of their estates until the danger had passed, while Kuron and his son Halren Ildrafn rode out to face the rebels head-on.
Pendros's ties with his children have also frayed somewhat in the past year. He named Tahir Ildrafn as heir to the Duchy of Whitecliff, a move that surprised his eldest Altheia Ildrafn greatly.
Religious Views
Pendros is an ostensibly devout member of the Church, attending services and seasonal rites when called to. However, the bishop of Rhythavn has noted on more than one occasion the presence of out-of-place lights upon the heath late at night near Stormsrest, where offerings have been left for The Red Sisters. Pendros acknowledges that worship of the Red Sisters in his lands is both present and not unexpected, and that the bishop would do well to focus first and foremost on the health of his own flock. When pressed about his own spiritual allegiances, Pendros merely stated "The Saints know the truth of my heart, and for me, that is enough."
Hobbies & Pets
Pendros has, like his forefathers, championed the preservation of Eld Fyr and spends some of his spare time out among the ruins, carefully studying the old runestones at its base.
