The Devil's Prism
The Devil's Prism is a theorized supernatural phenomenon located south of Ragnarok between the island of Ivory Cay, the Tri-tail Reefs, and the Illian Archipelago. giving the phenomena its name. It is mostly unexplored, and Ash Legion cartographers typically refer to it as uncharted waters shrouded in darkness and surrounded by enormous reefs. It is a place ruled by extra-planar powers where the dead live and the living go to die.
Rumors surround the triangle regarding the strange disappearances of ships that venture too far between the three islands. While most consider these old sailor's myths, the Devil's Prism is avoided by every sailor worth his salt.
Very few know of how or why the triangle came to be, but some historians suspect it may be related to the formation of Ragnarok. A great vein of ley-line activity has recently been discovered deep beneath the three islands, particularly under Ivory Cay. It has been theorized that Ragnarok's violent formation disrupted these leylines, causing the Astral Filament to fragment. This fragmentation may have caused a number of extra-planar realms to bleed into the materium, causing overlaps with both these other realms and material space. While a negligible phenomenon to begin with, the events of The War of the Undying may have worsened it to the point of permanence.
Many fringe scholars favor this position, as it would better explain the disappearances of ships in recent centuries.
The Timeless Vengeance
Many years ago during the purging of piracy from Quillbrand, one ship ventured into the triangle to escape the fleets of the Ash Legion. Its name was the Timeless Vengeance, and its captain was Vitus Al'Blackthorn. His ruthlessness on the seas around Ragnarok was legendary, and the Ash Legion suffered defeat at his hands many times over. No mercy nor quarter was given and he took no prisoners. He earned the moniker of the Vitus, the Blackhearted. Near the end of their war against piracy, the Dominion of Torment chased Vitus into the triangle, only for both him and the small fleet of Ash Legion ships to disappear. It was presumed that they were all lost at sea. However, many years later, tales from sailors returning from the triangle spoke of a single, skeletal ship of black, tattered scales, crewed by the living dead that pursued them until the very edges of the triangle, only to sail no further and disappear without a sight. It is said this is the Timeless Vengeance seeking a way out of the triangle's influence, and yet it is cursed to be trapped within its borders for all but once every 10 years, when the people of Quillbrand are reported to see a single ship of black, tattered sails cross the distant horizon before vanishing in a ghostly flash. Some say this is the Timeless Vengeance plotting its retribution upon Quillbrand.
