Freebrook Magistrate's Manor

As you approach the manor of the Lord Magistrate of the Gratic Empire for Freebrook, you can see a large house with a red roof rising from behind a wall of white marble. This wall glistens a little in the sun as you approach, giving it a sort of majesty that you don't normally see in the houses of Magistrates. As you get a little closer, you can see a pair of guards are standing outside a small oaken gate, which is a little more expected.   Once you get inside the walls, the manor itself becomes a little more prominent. Built of a solid dark brown wood, it has two floors, with little candles in the open windows. Another pair of guards is standing just outside the main doors, which are made of the same oak that the gate is made of. A small garden with some flowers and a large willow tree is just beside the door on one side, with a small stable on the other.   Going inside, the manor has a long hallway that ends in a staircase, with two corridors jutting out just in front of it. It is very wide open, with only a couple of small bookshelves and a small table next to a door where a scribe appears to be writing something furiously.

Architecture

The low walls around the manor are constructed of good Plainér Marble, which is no surprise given that Plainér Townn itself is a day's ride westward from Freebrook. These walls are a good 7 feet off the ground, taller than most people but wouldn't stand up to a determined assault. The oak gate is of good construction as well.   To the left side of the house (when coming in the gate) is a small garden, where the Magistrate's wife and their servants tend to some Hayim Roses and tulips. There is a large willow tree that overshadows the garden. The Magistrate's wife can be often found here reading a book or working in the garden; if she is, one of the guards from the door will be here instead.   To the right side of the house are the stables, which only have room for about five horses at the most. Meant for visiting dignitaries, they will not be given to common folk. A stableboy works there most of the day and into the night, tending to the Magistrate's horse and those of any visitors.   The manor itself is built of simple wood imported from Copselin and roofed with red Gúlb Tiles. It has two major floors, with candles kept in many of the windows for lighting at night. The windows are generally open during the day but are shut at night.   The main hall is with a small wooden staircase in the main hall connecting the two levels and branching off into the two wings of the house. The halls remain mostly unadorned, the current Magistrate a little more frugal with his furnishings than his predecessors. A couple of paintings sent by friends, the occasional table or small bookshelf, that sort of thing. In the main hall just outside of the Magistrate's office, his scribe works, setting appointments and doing accounting.   The magistrate's study contains a bare minimum of books as well as the desk where the Magistrate sits.   Down the main corridor leading to the west wing is the dining room, where the Magistrate and his wife take their meals. The kitchen is just past that room, where the cook and the servants eat and prepare the food. Past that is the servants quarters.   Most of the rooms in the upper west wing are the guards' quarters, with the lower east wing given over to guests and the upper east wing for the Magistrate and his family.

History

The Magistrate's house was built when the town was founded little under a century ago, hence the Copselin wood and Gúlb tiles that are significantly more rare and expensive now. Being relatively far from the main town, it was not affected by the fire seven years ago.   The Drakeslayers visited this manor during the course of their adventures, returning the Magistrate's wife as one notable incident.
