The Dargin's Den

On one side of the road is an old inn called "the Dargin's Den"; you only know it is old because the timbers look a little rotten at the edges and the gate clearly hasn't worked in years. It's a tall building, one of the tallest buildings in town. It has tall stone walls with a wooden stable at the side. The windows are made of horn and spaced irregularly along its four levels. A sign above the door shows an upright Darg with a mug in one hand and a walking stick in the other.   Inside the inn, the air is choked with smoke from at least two dozen travellers clogging the main room. One singular barmaid nimbly darts between tables, carrying a platter full of drinks and dumping them on the tables with a clatter. The air is filled with the chatter of many tongues chatting, laughing, and yelling. In the back of the room, away from the door, a man is filling mugs with local beer and boards with local produce.   A back room contains barrels and kegs of beer and ale from local brewers and crates of produce, as well as extra chairs.   Upstairs, the rooms are very sparse, with each containing a bed, a small table, and a chamber pot. During the night, it's not uncommon to hear squeaking from the mice that have infested the place.

Architecture

The Dargin's Den is built of solid local stone and Copselin wood, which is getting a little rotten with age and neglect. It has a tiny stone wall around it with a gate that hangs off of its hinges. At the side of the building is a stable big enough to fit a dozen horses, with Dagúri the Stableboy to keep them company during the night.   The main room is staffed by Emet Kaldas and Peri the Barmaid on most days and nights, and what a room! The place has seats for about three dozen, although some nights there are more than that. The chairs and tables were all made at the carpenters a couple of doors down and are heavily pockmarked with long use.   The inn can hold a maximum of fifty for the night, and is commonly full by evening.

History

The inn is the oldest in town, having been built shortly after the founding of the town. Many famous personages have stayed in the inn over the years, including Emperor Fredirk III if the rumours are to be believed. That being said, the inn has gotten older just as quickly as it has gotten busy, which is startlingly fast.   The Drakeslayers spent multiple nights here in the late winter of 182 II , and they got to know the place and some of its patrons.
