Plainér Mines
Arriving after a short walk from the main part of town, you begin to see the foothills of the White Guard Mountains inch closer, and looking in the distance, you can begin to make out the giant shapes of those mountains. But what's more interesting is the large pits dug out of the ground, two of them. You can see carts and a couple crews of miners carrying heavy blocks of the town's famous marble from the darkened mine entrances up towards the carts. Between the two mines, you can make out a small building, and beyond that, some smaller pits dug over the centuries that no longer see any use.
As you enter the mines, there are small wooden supports against the walls and across the ceiling, making a series of X-shapes down the tunnels. They're about ten feet wide in most places, with a couple of smaller tunnels being more like seven or eight feet wide. All of the walls are very rough hewn, with the occasional pickaxe, chisel, or abandoned torch to indicate where the miners were just working. In a couple of areas, especially the area near the underground pool, there are some light-giving fungi on the wall, providing a small amount of light.
At a couple of places in the tunnels, there are small barricades set up against the beast that the miners fear lies deep in the tunnels. These barricades are made of snapped beams, broken chairs and tables, and stacked-up rocks.
Alterations
Around 75 II , the miners abandoned a section of the mine due to a low amount of marble and switched over to the other two mines. Recently, the miners have breached into this old section, and they barricaded it off in case of monsters or bandits until it was shown to be safe.
History
The Plainér Town mines were first established sometime in last decade before the Empire was formed, and the town's mines were instrumental in supplying the high-quality Plainér Marble required for many high-ranking buildings in the region and beyond. The mines themselves have seen highs and lows, indicated by some abandoned tunnels and more dangerous regions deep down in them.
In 182 II , the mines were broken into and dragons and drakes were summoned in the tunnels. While the drakes were led out of the place without anyone being the wiser, the dragon was left down there when the section of tunnels it was living in collapsed. It took the intervention of the Drakeslayers to deal with that.
