Kethgard
Summary
Kethgard is an ancient city of giants located in the Middledark, a region of the Underdark that lies beneath the surface of The Material Plane. The city was once a powerful stronghold of giant-kind and was known for its epic battles with dragons and other surface-dwelling races. Today, the city is desolate and abandoned, as the giants have mostly gone extinct. However, it is said that Kethgard still holds many secrets and dangers for those brave enough to explore its ruins.History
Kethgard was founded by a powerful giant king named Thorgaun, who united several giant clans under his rule. Thorgaun's empire was vast, and Kethgard was the jewel in its crown, a massive city of stone built within the Middledark. For centuries, Kethgard was a highly feared and respected city, with its giants warring against dragons and other surface-dwelling races for control of The Material Plane. However, over time, the giants began to decline. Their once-mighty empire fell into disarray, and many giants succumbed to disease, starvation, or violence at the hands of their enemies. Eventually, the last of the giants abandoned Kethgard, leaving the city to crumble into ruins.A Massive City
Kethgard was an enormous city, built into the back wall of a massive cavern in the Middledark. Its stone walls were as tall as a mountain and as thick as a Human city, designed to withstand even the most powerful attacks. The city was full of massive buildings, including a giant palace, a massive arena, and towering temples dedicated to the giants' god, Ulutiu.Secrets
Despite being abandoned for countless centuries, Kethgard is said to hold many secrets. Some say that the giant king Thorgaun buried his greatest treasures somewhere within the city, hidden away in secret vaults and tombs. Others claim that Kethgard's ruins hold powerful magic and ancient knowledge, waiting to be discovered by intrepid adventurers.Dangers
Exploring Kethgard's ruins is not for the faint of heart. The city is home to all manner of dangerous creatures, including giant spiders, cave bears, and other subterranean predators. The city's crumbling buildings and tunnels are also prone to collapse. However, the greatest danger in Kethgard is said to be the city's defenses, which are still operational after all this time. Traps, wards, and other deadly devices designed to protect the city from dragons and other invaders still lurk within its ruins, waiting for unwary adventurers to trigger them.
