The natural protection offered by being wedged between a mountain range and ocean has allowed for the kingdom to thrive for nearly 4 centuries.
Structure
Monarch
The monarch is the head of state of Ælnea. Unlike most of the monarchies of surrounding kingdoms, such as those in Armvíðir or Tìr Àrdachaidh, Ælnean monarchs are elected into their position during a ceremony called an Althing, which is called a week after the death or resignation of the predecessor. The Althing can last for several months, during which the five Earls of the various provinces are the candidates to become the next monarch. The barons and baronets cast votes for each Earl in two rounds of voting, the two Earls with the most votes making it to the second round. From there, the barons and baronets cast another vote for the two contenders, and whichever Earl receives the most votes is elected the monarch of Ælnea for the rest of their life.Earl
