From Arrival to 7.13.5014

General Summary

Arrival and Immediate Defensive Actions

The Union Navy dispatched the Lancer team as a quick reaction team in response to reports of troubles in Evergreen. After arriving, the Lancers discovered that the city had been plagued by attacks from an indigenous population known as Hercyians, aided by a non-sapient arthropod species capable of using tools. The team met with Brava Hadura, Edena Ji, and Patience, where they were briefed on the local situation and presented with several opportunities to help.   The Lancers decided to help Chief Engineer Fielding with draining the nearby landing bowl of water. The landing bowl had filled after a pump failure- without it, Evergreen would be significantly impeded without logistical support. The team escorted Fielding and his team through an ambush with minimal casualties. While Fielding worked on the pump system, the group received an alert to the Gray Towns experiencing issues with their subalterns.   On the way, the Lancers saw numerous subalterns behaving abnormally. Once they arrived at Liu Maize, the source of the distress signal, they discovered that Albert Chau had become pinned inside his homestead along with his family. The Lancers fought through a horde of subalterns and mech-sized robots, including [The Broadcast], and managed to rescue the Chaus. They discovered a remote user titled ">//BEGGAR_ONE" had been issuing commands and executing imperatives from the farm's Comp/Con. Jiren also interfaced with the comp/con and became infected with a virus called Cynosure, which he promptly converted into a system for his mech.

Rapid Response Force

After securing Evergreen from immediate threats, the Lancers had a moment to catch their breath. That is until Patience quickly assembled the team to inform them of an imminent assault on the city. The assault began at night, and the team rushed to defend the city's gates. However, that assault was a feint that the Hercynians used to assault Evergreen's power station. The team pivoted to the reactor, defeating all enemies present and forcing a retreat. As the last enemy fell, they received another report that an advanced mech had spotted rapidly approaching the city. They arrived just in time to confront it as it burst through the walls. REGRET put up quite the fight, but ultimately the Lancers prevailed. They defeated it, taking its shattered frame for themselves. Civilian casualties during the battle were found to be within tolerable levels.   The attacks on Evergreen came to a close. The team rested for several weeks, taking time to construct new Mechs and hone their skills. As summer came, Dthall Ordo, a Hercynian Ranger, contacted the team. They explained that the Hercyian United Cities no longer considered Evergreen a threat and that a far more powerful foe had revealed itself. She broke contact as the team was summoned by Patience, who alerted the Lancers to a machine signal affecting seemingly every Subaltern in the city and surrounding areas. Patience seemed disturbed by the signal but assured the Lancers and Edena that he would be fine after regular cycling. Patience tasked the Lancers with tracking down the source of the signal, seemingly Tower 3 a hundred kilometers to the east.

Opening the Floodgates

The team followed a river of subalterns, crawling and clawing their way along a freshly forged path to the east. They discovered the subalterns had been digging a massive hole into the ground. Suddenly, their sensors detected an enormous swarm coming from below the surface. They were digging up to meet those digging down and finally burst through and began to pour out. The Lancers were forced to flee up the mountains to safety. The team's mechs were damaged harshly in the following combat, with Jiren's destroyed entirely. The team put a request into Evergreen, and with a massive effort by Chief Engineer Fielding and the resources of Evergreen, a mostly constructed replacement was airdropped in for Jiren. For the time being, the Lancers could do nothing but watch as the horde came forth.
