Fafnir

Fafnir Hriedmarson

Fafnir was originally an Asgardian, living on Vanaheim with his father and two brothers, Otr and Regin.

When Otr was killed by Loki and Odin, Hriedmar demanded they pay a blood-price in recompence. Loki slew the Dwarf Andvari and stole his treasure hoard. However, with his dying breath, Andvari cursed the gold so that it would reveal the true nature of any who possessed it.

When Fafnir saw the gold, it revealed his greedy and avaricious heart, and he murdered his father and stole the gold, taking it into a deep cave. Over the years that followed, his body absorbed magic from the gold, gradually transforming into a dragon, as a reflection of his true nature.

After killing many brave warriors who sought to claim his treasure, he was eventually killed by Sigurd the Everglorious using the sword Gram, forged by his brother Regin to kill even gods.

His heart was cut out and eaten by Sigurd, because the heart of a dragon grants immortality to anyone who eats it.
