Ghamiyah Plant

The Ghamiyah plant is an evergreen shrub or small tree that is indigenous to the mountainous regions north of the Sea of Alfabr and eastern Laros. Its leaves, stem and flower can be used for making tea. When grown in the red alkaline soil of Laros, it gains a deeper reddish color to its leaf, petal and stem due to the presence of Red Seretite mineral in the soil absorbed through the xylem.

Uses

Ghamiyah is used to make Ghamiyah Tea, which has mild sedative properties when made from the red ghamiyah plant, grown in the Tarragon's Ridge region. The plant has also been used in Larosi and Umqheri Cuisine for its taste and stimulant properties.

Culture

Ghamiyah is seen as a sacred or holy plant in Larosi and Umqheri culture, with the Ghamiyah Tea Ceremony, a common rite of welcome in Northern Meraqia, being centred around the consumption and tasting of tea and pastries made with different parts of the Ghamiyah plant.

Hazards

The red ghamiyah variation of the plant can be toxic to magic users. The common version of the plant has the flavour and is safe to use by non-magic users, though it has a milder stimulating property than its red counterpart.
