Lazaret

As a vestige from the years in which the Breakwater Walls and Breakwater Gates were utilised, there remains a law in the consitution of several nations on the Toreworld, giving the government leave to invoke ‘Lazaret’ - an emergency status which involves the closing of all borders immediately, and the raising of Breakwater Walls (Or, if already raised, the forced closing of Breakwater Gates).
In modern times, the ability to raise or lower the Breakwater Walls has been lost, so the process of Lazaret consists of using military methods to close the border, and has generally been used to imply/invoke a feeling of a state of emergency by the Head of State.

Emergencies for which Lazaret may be invoked include:

• War (Civil, International, Intercontinental)
• Pandemic
• Natural Emergencies
• Magical Emergencies

• The Thousand-Years War/ The Godless War
• The War of Bloody Gold
• The Battle of Quirkao
• Idolian Volcanic Eruption
• Kielan Caldera Eruption
• The Wars of the Oasis*
• The Ring of Ash Calamity **
• The Samstradian Invasion of Laros *
