Session 7 - Growing Threats

General Summary

Alais making a pivotal decision after the intense events of the last council meeting. Realizing the importance of trust and loyalty, he uncollared four key members of his inner circle: Hugo, Roderick, Astele, and Fimbul. By setting them free, Alais solidified their commitment to the future of River's Edge, acknowledging their vital role in the kingdom’s success.   At Roderick’s suggestion, the group appointed a new general to lead their forces: a black-scaled kobold named Pikk. Despite his size, Pikk’s strategic mind and unwavering loyalty made him a natural fit for the role. The next few weeks passed peacefully, with the kingdom’s expansion efforts focused on building a mine to support their growing economy.   During this time, the group visited the town’s tavern and discovered it had been bought by a mysterious individual who preferred to remain anonymous. There, they met Skylark, a sharp and business-savvy birdwoman from Stormreach hired to manage the establishment. Skylark quickly impressed the group with her adept handling of the tavern, which had already become a profitable success under her leadership.   Meanwhile, Lena approached Alais and Fimbul with concerning rumors: reports of wild animals exploding into masses of vines and flowers, spawning aggressive plant-based creatures. Fimbul, ever cautious, advised Lena to keep quiet and avoid raising a panic while he personally investigated the strange occurrences.   In need of resources, Alais borrowed 5,000 gold from the shadowy merchant Duskwhisper, knowing the debt would need to be repaid swiftly. During their investigation of the town, they became suspicious of two wizards—Seraphaxos and his apprentice, Luminthrax. Their presence in River’s Edge seemed off, and their motives unclear. With tensions rising, Alais decided to remove the potential threat by kicking both wizards out of town.   Amid the uncertainty, Astele shared an enticing rumor with Hugo about a ruined tower filled with treasure, guarded by a fearsome creature. Hugo, aware of the kingdom’s debt to Duskwhisper, saw an opportunity to both repay their creditor and bolster their wealth. The group set off to investigate the tower, hoping the rumors of treasure were true.   Upon arriving, they faced a series of deadly encounters. First, they were attacked by a vicious Rat Swarm, then ensnared by Assassin Vines, and finally, haunted by a cursed ring within the tower’s ancient halls. Their ascent led them to a final showdown with a powerful Succubus who guarded the tower’s treasure. After a fierce battle, they defeated the creature and claimed the riches within.   Their victory was short-lived, as they returned to River’s Edge only to find the town had been ravaged by a massive Owlbear, leaving death and destruction in its wake. Awena, a strong and capable ally, volunteered to join the group in tracking down the beast. She impressed the group with her raw strength as they hunted the owlbear into the wilderness.   After a brutal battle, Fimbul struck the final blow, slaying the alpha owlbear. Upon closer inspection, they discovered something disturbing: the beast was wearing a harness made of twisted vines, eerily similar to the crown they had found on a corrupted troll earlier in their adventures. Hugo, always resourceful, discovered a baby owlbear among the wreckage and quietly took it with him, intent on raising it.
