Eta Orjans I

Large, extremely cold planet of the Eta Orjans System.
Eta Orjans I orbits a black hole, so it is very dark. It is dimly lit by the accretion disk. However, the planet has been bombarded by the star's supernova in the past, which at the time caused it to heat up to immense temperatures, and exotic conditions started forming. One of the rarest materials known in nature - magnetic monopoles - began to form. Now, millions of years later, these monopoles would remain on the planet and sometimes impact its geology. For example, they often lined up following the direction of the planets magnetosphere. This caused a number of them to align near the poles, so that is primarily where the Hyperion Federation began mining operations.
There are also a number of monopole laboratories located in various locations on the planet, typically near the equator. These are mostly designed to study the properties and potential uses of these monopoles, and have helped to advanced HF science slightly. This gives the planet a huge value, so naturally the HF has placed a number of defence platforms in orbit around it and also kept the equipment here secret. Due to its size, the surface has a high gravity.
