City of Mordar

The City of Mordar is located on the Morloth River west of Graywater Lake in Northern Imesse.  It is an important hub of trade and traffic both on the river and across the land, as three major roads pass through Mordar and cross the river there.  The city has a population of just under 7,000 souls, the majority of which are Human.  The city and its surrounding countryside are ruled by Lord Gustam Lothman and are part of the Royal Domains of Northern Imesse and are ultimately ruled by the hand of the High King of Imesse, Max III.   Mordar is very old, and has been the seat of the Noble House of Lothman for centuries.  Prior to the Ohnni Conquest of Imesse, Mordar was the capital of a rather large kingdom ruled by the House of Lothman for hundreds of years before the conquest.  The citadel of Mordar is the primary residence of the Lothmans and is called River Tower.  It is a massive, rambling structure covering more than 12 acres of ground on the south bank of the Morloth that has been rebuilt and added to for more than 300 years.

Nearly all Humans, with a small community of Halflings numbering about 80.

Government

Locally governed by Lord Gustam Lothman in the name of High King Max III.  Immediately anserable to the Lord High Constable of Imesse, Sandor am Toricki.

Defences

The city is guarded by a Company of Foot, tasked with manning the walls and gates as well as patrolling the streets at night.  They are dilligent, but over-worked and simply don't have the numbers to adequately complete their tasks.

Industry & Trade

The city is the primary center for the distribution of raw materials from the western regions of Imesse (and beyond) into the interior of the High Kingdom.  Lumber, stone, peat, charcoal, straw, thatch, specialty hardwoods, furs, exotic meats or game are all brought into the city, then packaged and loaded onto carts, wagons or barges and shipped out into the wider Kingdoms.  The city has several cooperages, wagon shops, wheel crafters, farriers and freightmen by the dozens.

Infrastructure

A small city on the south banks of the Morloth River and directly controlling the crossroads of five very busy and very important roads that connect much of northwestern Imesse.  The city walls are very old and much neglected and several towers along the walls are unusable.  The city as a very good port facility, however, with many fine stone docks and quays and dozens of well-built warehouses.  The port of Mordar can load and unload as many as 20 barges a day when traffic on the river is busy.

History

There has been a Human settlement at Mordar for more than 1,000 years.  The oldest sections of the city's walls are more than 600 years old, and the Old Keep at River Tower is more than 400 years old.  Mordar has a long history, and evidence of that history is found all along the river banks and surrounding countryside in ancient barrows, tower houses and hill forts long abandoned.
