Lady Marian Tanner
Marian Tanner is a 40-year-old Human and is the chief advisor and assistant to the Lord Lord Chancellor of Lesser Imesse, Vernam Older. She is amazingly skilled with numbers and calculations, and has some of the best accounting and arithmetic skills in the Kingdom, and she routinely applies these skills in her duties for the King.
Born in the poorest section of the City of Southridge, she received no actual formal education and learned all she knows from hands-on experience working as a child in the city's busy market districts. Orphaned as a teenage girl, she was forced to make her own way in the world, and her natural abiltiy with numbers allowed her to climb the ladder of success rapidly. She met Vernam's father during a large tournament in the year 209, when Mak II assension to the throne was being celebrated across the city. Werner Older was so impressed witht he child's abilities that he paid her twice her normal wages to tutor his son, Vernam, in mathematics. Vernam became quite capable at math himself, but was never able to master the science so well as Marian had.
Less than two years later, Vernam was named Lord Chncellor by Mak II and he began to look for able and trustworthy staff for his new office. Marian was the first name he called, and she accepted his offer of a generous stipend, a lovely house near the castle, and staff to wait on her daily needs for her advice, counsel and assistance in his new duties.
