Rainar am Lomanni (ray-nahr)

Rainar am Lomanni

Rainar am Lomanni was the second son of Ansel am Lomanni and a brother of Alain am Lomanni and Lomain am Lomanni.  He was fighting with the vanguard elements of the Imessian army as it approached the Colian City of Nyallshold.  Rainar had earned through his exceptional skills a position with the personal retinue of Torum am Nari, the leader of the army from Imesse.  After the intial attack, the Colian forces led by Olan Dalnyall first flanked then routed the Imessian main force of infantry, driving them back across the plains that surrounded the city.  Torum was forced from the field by his personal guards, and Rainar led the delaying action to buy his commander time to escape the rout.   Rainar defeated four mounted Colian knights before having his horse cut from under him.  He stood his ground, ready to face whomever challenged him.  The next Colian to face him was a young, red-headed clansman named Dylan Boyne.  After a prolonged single combat, wherein the remainder of the Imessian forces had fled the field, Rainar found himself and his opponent surrounded by more than 100 Colian infantry.  Rather than surrender, he continued to fight and was defeated and killed by Dylan.   As no Imessian troops remained to tell the tale of the brave but tragic end to Rainar am Lomanni, it was Dylan himself who sought out and related the story of his brave end to his older brother, Alain am Lomanni in the months after the battle under a flag of truce at the Imesse border.  His body was never recovered, but the effort made by Dylan deeply impressed Alain and his youngest brother, Lomain am Lomanni.
