Darberik Fivebraids
Darberik Fivebraids is a Dwarven merchant from Kurdenheim who claims descent from Balgon Fivebraids. He is, in his own word, a distant son of a great house, and he found himself with ambition to rise to be more. He tried several times and in several ways to increase his family fortune, but nothing he did seemed to yield the results he hoped for.
He delved into family archives and read words penned by Cassada Fivebraids, who said that the green lightning over the Everfrost Mountains led her to the place where Balgondelve was built. She believed the green lightning revealed to her the Adamantine deep in the mountains, and she built the Fivebraids fortune with it.
Rumors of green lightning flashing over the Cloudraker Mountains in the Desolation of Azmartheon caught his attention, and he decided to gamble all on an expedition. Using the last of his personal monies and borrowing a fair sum from the Bank of Kurdenheim, he commissioned three ships from shipwrights of Sigurth's Climb and had dwarven mages imbue them with the properties of stone. He then hired doughty crews, including Captains Valthi Vastdeep and Kellen Sunderwave, to sail them. With the Adventurers known as the Fire Wasps signed on for the journey, they set out, sailing down to the coast to Estwald and then east to Keshwan, and having many adventures along the way.
Although one of the ships was sunk by the pirate Gar Shatterkeel, a new ship was captured in his defeat, and Darberik found a new partner in the Sultan of Deshbara, who offered financial assistance in exchange for one of the stoneships. Finally, all of Darberik’s hopes paid off when the Fire Wasps took the Duergar city of Drengingvult from the monstrous Uvalok. This mining city proved to be rich in Adamantine, and Darberik settled in to plumb its riches. Under his guidance, the city has been renamed Dammunheim, the Greenstone Haven, and Darberik has been named Ur-Thane of this new community. Time will tell if he can turn the city into the dwarven kingdom he believes it can be.
When the Fire Wasps called for aid, he brought a force of adamantine-armed dwarves to the Battle of Worldbreaker's Howe . His forces helped reinforce the smaller allied armies, helping them to victory and cementing his place among world leaders.
