Justan

Abbot Justan was the kindly old leader of the Church of Shandalene in Seowyn's Crossing. He was responsible for taking in the Minotaur boy Eustace, something which did not make him popular with all of his monks, especially his successor, Abbot Jacoby. He was a warrior in his youth, but, as a monk, his sword remained wrapped amongst his belongings, peace-tied and fallow. When he died in the spring of 1075 SKR, he willed his sword to Brother Eustace.

During his travels, Eustace eventually discovered that Justan had been a Paladin of Shandalene named Arnd who had been venerated as a Saint. As he retreated into more peaceful ways, however, he left his enchanted armor in the hands of the Aasimar priest, Brother Nehem. When Eustace took the coat away, he left Justan’s sword behind in its place.

Eustace recently learned that Justan was part of the group (also including Jacoby, Brother Candus, and Brother Teodorus) that saved him from his Uncle Sklirios Bloodheart and his brother Kethalios Blackhorns when his parents Eleos and Kalosyne Blackhorns were slain. Abbot Justan had previously told him that they’d been saved from a Goblinoid attack. In the end, Eustace decided it did not affect his feelings towards his beloved abbot.
