Palangurth

Palangurth (in the common tongue “Far-slayer”) is a sword of Eladrin-make. It belonged to the Crown Prince of Tavanion, Belerion ap Kadishai. After his rescue from Orcs by the Fire Wasps, he gave it to them as a sign of thanks and friendship. It was wielded by Kidalis Havengard, but he eventually returned it to the Prince. It can be commanded to hurl itself at a foe, and, if it strikes, to teleport that foe back to its master.

After Belerion's death at the Battle of Worldbreaker's Howe, his friend and lieutenant Kinnaria ap Mavarondys returned with his body and the sword to Gwyllan's Watch. At the prince's funeral, she placed the sword on his chest. As his funeral boat dropped over the Bright Cascade, a silver gryphon appeared, snatched up the sword, and carried it off. A prophecy by the Satyr oracle Elegy says that, whoever recovers the sword will lead Tavanion to a new age of glory.
