Alshar
Alshar is the largest country in Delia. Alshar is located at the center of the continent of Delia. Alshar is a largely coastal region. There are many cities throughout the country, but they are not as important as the Capital City Vashin. In addition to the capital, there are two large ports: Port City of Aramoor and Port City Shavadeh. The former is located on a bay in the south while the latter lies along the coast of The Sea Of Storms. Both towns are connected by a road that runs through the swamps. It's said that this road was built during the reign of King Adalard III.
Alshar is also home to several large cities, including Larisse, Tarkenon, and Dandolos.
These three cities are all located near each other in the central part of the country, which makes them ideal for trade with one another. They are also close to the Ruins of Ancient Thay.
The Humans of Alshar are mostly descended from the original settlers of the land. However, they have also had contact with other races. For example, the elves settled near the forests of the north, and the dwarves lived deep within the mountains. The dwarves were forced out of their caves after the first wave of elves arrived. Many of these dwarves still live in the mountains today.
Today, Alshar is ruled by the House of Valheru. The current king is King Raelin I. He rules over a population of about 200,000. Most of these people live in the Capital City Vashin. A few thousand more reside in the other cities.
Alshar is a very prosperous country. It produces much of the food and goods consumed across the continent. It also exports a great deal of grain, leather, wool, and ore.
The main industries of Alshar are farming and mining. Farms cover almost half of the land around the capital. Farmers raise wheat, barley, fruits, vegetables, and livestock. The rest of the farmland is used to grow crops such as oats and rye. Mining takes place in the northern mountains. There are dozens of mines scattered throughout the mountains.
In addition to agriculture and mining, Alshar is also known for its textiles. The artisans of Alshar make some of the finest cloth in the world. Their work can be found in every corner of the continent.
Many of the inhabitants of Alshar are descended from the original settlers of the land. However, they have also had contact with other races.
The people of Alshar follow their god named Ral and worship him as a living being. They believe that he created the world, and they pray to him for guidance in all things. His priests are called "Sage", and they serve as advisors to the king. Ral is considered a benevolent deity who will reward those who obey his teachings with good fortune. He has many followers among the elves, dwarves, and Humans of Alshar.
While Alshar is still the most prosperous nation of Delia, it is not without problems. The country suffers from frequent droughts, which cause crop failures. As a result, the people become poorer and poorer every year. In recent years, the king has tried to solve this issue by building dams along rivers. Unfortunately, these projects take time, and the drought continues.
Another problem facing Alshar is the threat of invasion. The kingdom lies directly between two of the most powerful nations of the continent: Falskaar and Zangaria. Both countries covet Alshar's wealth and natural resources. Over the past century, both nations have sent armies to invade Alshar. Each attempt was defeated by the army of the House of Valheru. Tensions are high between the nations but a truce is in place, for now.
Piracy at the ports is also a rampant problem. Pirates attack ships traveling near Alshar's coast. Many of the pirates come from the islands off the coast. Some of them are mercenaries hired by other kingdoms. Others are bandits who steal from travelers.
Finally, Alshar is plagued by religious conflicts. The Teachings of Ral have long been the only religion in Alshar but recently the Church of Light from Ustalav have begun spreading their teachings throughout Alshar. The church is growing rapidly and many devout believers are converting to their faith.
The people of Alshar come from many different places and backgrounds. Some are descended from the original settlers of the land, while others are immigrants from other lands. Many of the immigrants came from the east. Others came from the south. Still others came from the west. Humans make up the majority of the population. Other races include elves, dwarves, and gnomes.
The elves of Alshar are tall and thin. They have long golden hair and blue eyes. They are known for being graceful and elegant. They tend to be reserved and quiet. Elves are highly intelligent and skilled in magic. They prefer to live in the forested areas of the north.
Dwarves are short and stocky. They have thick brown hair and dark eyes. Dwarven culture is centered around their families and their ancestors. Dwarves are strong and durable. They are skilled craftsmen. They enjoy working with metal and stone. Dwarves like to build underground homes made of wood and stone. Dwarven villages are typically located near mines.
Gnomes are small and light-skinned. They have pointed ears and large, round eyes. Gnomes are curious and playful. They love to explore new places. They are quick and agile. Gnomes are often employed as spies and scouts. They are also skilled at making weapons and armor. Gnome villages are built inside caves.
Humans make up the largest portion of the population. They are a mix of races, including dwarves, elves, and gnomes. Most humans are farmers. They grow wheat, barley, fruit, vegetables, and livestock. They also raise cattle and sheep.
Elves, dwarves, and gnomes are the three oldest races in Alshar. Each of these races was founded hundreds of years ago. The first elf settlements were established in the forests of the north. The first dwarf settlement was founded deep within the mountains. The first gnome village was built in the valley of the river Yllia.
Alshar is home to many ancient ruins. These ruins date back thousands of years. They were built during the time when Ral was worshipped as a living god. The earliest ruins were constructed by the Thay. Later, the dwarven city of Sancrist was erected. Finally, the human city of Vashin was built. All of these cities still stand today.
Some of the holidays celibrated in Alshar include: Ralsday, Pitfall, and Rally Day.
