Giffin Castle
Though its name still implies great majesty, it is an unfortunate reality that Giffin Castle is currently in a state of ruin. Located on the Beith to Dunlop road, the castle once served as a defensive point where small contingents of troops were barracked and where the constable would occasionally meet to dispense justice on serious criminal cases from Beith and Dunlop. The castle courtyard saw dozens of hangings over its decades of use.
The castle was abandoned almost a century ago after fire damaged the main structure. Rumors of hauntings persist and although the castle sits quite close to the road, most travelers hurry past quickly, not willing to hang around to find out if the rumors are true.
