Guinea pigs, while not as important as llamas or hunting wild game, are a major food staple for many Temple Cities and Kahoun.
Guinea pigs are not especially but they breed very quickly and they do not require a lot of space. What they lack in size, their Skink handlers make up in quantity.
After the Coming of Sotek, guinea pigs are nicknamed "good rats". They are also nicknamed "little bites".
A lot of Lizardmen settlements keep a few hundred guninea pigs as a back up food source. The Big Four Temple Cities keep tens of thousands of guinea pigs and serve at least some of their residents guinea pig meat every day.

Guinea pigs are herbivores. They can eat starches but cannot subsist on start alone. Most domesticated guinea pigs in Lustria are fed grass hay as their staple, with a fair helping of fruit and vegetables (both dried and fresh), and sometimes supplements of tubers and starches.

Guinea pigs have been raised for food in Lizardmen temple cities almost since the end of the Great Cataclysm.
Beast caste Skinks keep guinea pigs for their meat and little else. Looking after guinea pigs is considered boring and many Beast caste Skinks view assignment to the guinea pig pens as a punishment assignmnet.
Generally, few of the First consider guinea pork to be their favorite food, but it is better than nothing when more palable fare is not available.
Slann never ask to eat guinea pig meat.
