the Swirling Swamps
The Swirling Swamp is a brackish salt water marsh region in southeast Lustria noteworthy for many swamps and coastal waters prone to forming whirlpools and other dangerous currents. There is also frequent gales and thunderstorms.
Neither the whirlpools or wind storms are constant but they are frequent and unpredictable.
Ecosystem
The area is teeming with fish of various kind which feed predatory birds and flying reptiles. Large land animals are relatively uncommon here.
Ecosystem Cycles
A lot of mangrove trees and other common flora and fauna of a typical brackish swamp region. Because of the currents and wind storms, all of the local animals have adapted to the local conditions. The local flyers seem to have a sixth sense for predicting these danger and seek shelters.
Skinks familar with the region know to seek shelter when the birds and flying reptiles disappear fromt he skies.
Localized Phenomena
The metaphysical center of the Swirling Swamp is a major ley line intersection marking where five continuous ley lines intersect. The magical energies essentially create the turbulent currents and violent weather the region is known for.
Climate
The area is slighly cooler than most of Lustriam, more subtropical than tropical, but the temperature is rarely an impediment to the local Lizardmen (when they bother to visit the area at all).
History
The region does not have Temple City or Kahoun or monument to the Old Ones erected to regulate the ley lines.
Many ley line interesections in Lustria used to have a temple city or Kahoun or monument to regulate the magical forces but they were destroyed by Daemons, Skaven or other hostile forces.
In this case, the Slann never ordered anything to be built here in the first place. Some Skink priests have speculated that the Slann might have got around to building something here eventual and the Great Catastrophe cancelled their building plans, but others speculate that the Slann wanted the magic here to run wild or maybe they just didn't care.
There are no resources here that the Lizardmen need that they cannot find elsewhere but a lot of ships of would be Lustria raiders get drawn here by prevailing currents then trapped by the whirlpools and winds and grounded. Then the raiders either drown in the swamp or die of starvation without the need for a Skink or Saurus to even lift a talon.
Sometimes a few outsiders survive the swamp long enough to stagger into the Culchan Plains at which point they will probably eventually be spotted by a patrol of Skinks who can summon an army to destroy them if necessary.
