worker caste
Society of the First allows for some social mobility but not much. Most Lizardmen are born into one societal role and they live their whole lives in this role. They are born into castes.
The worker caste is the most common caste. About two thirds of all Skinks and nine tenths of all Kroxigor are born into the worker caste.
The worker caste has fewer natural leaders than other castes, despite representing over 60% of all Skinks, only about 40% of all Skink chiefs and priests are of this spawning.
Colorations differ across Lustria and the Southlands but in Klodorex at least, worker caste skinks and Kroxigor are usually blue with yellow and tan accents.
Worker caste Skinks and Kroxigor are expected to work but this a broad umbrella. Kroxigor are not deep thinkers. Pretty much all Kroxigor's main job is to carry heavy things from point A to point B.
Skink professions are all over the map. Some Skinks are "scroll heads" dealing with maintaining and accessing written archives and keeping records of things. Some are farmers, some are craftsmen, some are full time Kroxigor supervisors, some work in construction, some are menial laborers.
When a Skink first emerges from a Spawning pool, learned Skink priests and sages will carefully examine astrological signs in the sky and scale patterns on the Skinks in question to figure out which jobs the newly spawned Skinks should be trained in.
While the First make a big deal out of the pre-ordained wisdom of the Old Ones, more often that not Skinks are assigned job training based on what the Kahoun or Temple City has an unmet need for.
In larger Temple Cities, it is common for a worker caste Skink to only perform one very specific and often highly specialized task for the duration of his life. In smaller Lizardmen settlements, jobs are more flexible and most Skinks are crosstrained in more than one vocation.
