Everdine Forest

Geography

The Everdine Forest is a vast and magical jungle located in the southern parts of the Rolling Hills of Roma, on the Continent of Renstrom. It is a contested area between the Kingdom of Mount Roma and the Kingdom of Malgos. Following a significant fire in 2560, the forest expanded fourfold due to an excessive infusion of restorative magic by the goddess Natrine. This magical expansion has created a dense, labyrinthine jungle that overgrew the town of Everdine and other settlements, while carefully avoiding the Knowing Moon settlement of Grung and stopping just outside Aceitunas. The forest's geography is marked by a blend of tropical and temperate zones, with Lake Azion at its center, surrounded by a lush, vibrant canopy that hides numerous hidden locations such as the mystical city of Sa'il Ve'anon.

Ecosystem

The Everdine Forest boasts a rich and diverse ecosystem. Its magical nature has led to an unusual blend of flora and fauna that coexist in harmony. The forest is home to both temperate and tropical species, creating a unique biosphere where giant ferns and ancient oaks stand alongside vibrant tropical flowers and towering banyan trees. This magical jungle supports a variety of animal life, including rare and magical creatures such as unicorns, gryphons, and enchanted serpents. The presence of the Abjuration Well adds a layer of protective magic, which influences the ecosystem by granting certain plants and animals enhanced abilities, such as accelerated healing and increased resilience.

Ecosystem Cycles

The ecosystem cycles of the Everdine Forest are deeply influenced by its magical nature. Seasonal changes are subtle, with the forest maintaining a perpetual state of verdant growth throughout the year. This constant renewal is driven by the powerful restorative magic infused into the land. The forest's ecosystem cycles include regular bursts of magical energy, especially during significant lunar alignments, which trigger accelerated growth and blooming of flora. Animal life follows similar patterns, with mating seasons often coinciding with these magical events, leading to periods of increased activity and vibrancy within the forest.

Localized Phenomena

Everdine Forest is renowned for its localized magical phenomena. The most prominent is the magical aura of Lake Azion, which intensifies during specific lunar alignments, bestowing the lake's waters with healing properties. This water is essential in brewing Everdine Ale, which can sometimes exhibit the qualities of a healing potion. The Abjuration Well at the bottom of Lake Azion is another source of wonder, as its magical essence imbues nearby clay with protective properties, creating the famed Azion Clay. Additionally, the hidden city of Sa'il Ve'anon is protected by high elven magic, causing the forest to misdirect and obscure any uninvited guests.

Climate

The climate of the Everdine Forest is a unique blend of tropical and temperate conditions. It experiences warm, humid weather throughout the year, with frequent, gentle rains that nourish the dense foliage. The magical infusion from the goddess Natrine has created a stable climate that avoids extremes, ensuring that the forest remains lush and vibrant. This climate supports a wide range of plant and animal life, making the forest a thriving, evergreen environment.

Fauna & Flora

Everdine Forest is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna. The flora includes towering ancient trees, magical herbs, and vibrant tropical flowers. Unique plant species such as the Everdine Fern, which glows faintly at night, and the Azion Blossom, known for its healing properties, are found here. The fauna is equally diverse, with creatures like the elusive Everdine Lynx, the magical Azion Deer, and numerous bird species that add to the forest's symphony of sounds. Magical creatures, such as unicorns and gryphons, also inhabit the forest, adding to its mystical allure.

Natural Resources

The Everdine Forest is rich in natural resources, many of which possess magical properties. Azion Clay, found near Lake Azion, is prized for its protective qualities and is used in various magical applications. The forest's timber is highly valued for its strength and durability, making it a key resource for the Kingdom of Mount Roma. Additionally, the grains irrigated by Lake Azion are essential for brewing the famous Everdine Ale, which is a significant trade item throughout Renstrom.

History

The history of the Everdine Forest is deeply intertwined with the kingdoms of Mount Roma and Malgos. Initially, it was a strategic resource area contested by both kingdoms. The forest's expansion in 2560, due to the goddess Natrine's magic, reshaped its history and geography. The town of Everdine, originally a lumber and fishing outpost, evolved into a vibrant community known for its cultural diversity and rich trade. Historical events, such as the attempted contamination of the Abjuration Well by Kelos the Harvester and the intervention by the Talons, have left lasting impacts on the forest's magic and ecology.
