Dear mom and dad, Dear sisters and brothers,
I am alive! I just came out from a dark place and I really wanted to write to you about it all. The world can be frightening, but with good and skilled friends it’s survivable.
I think I told you about the undead monstrosities we met at Blackford crossing in my last letter. That church was really a bad result of a teenager’s imprudence. Since then, we went through two cities. The first one was Blackford Watch.
Biri and Jheri could have been helpful there. We had to deal with a corrupted watch. The problem got so bad that citizens began dying. Thankfully we managed to expose the problem and find a good possible leader. I hope it’s all in a better shape now.
On the nice side of this all, we got to meet a great mage. She has a shop full of nice things. I’m a bit sorry I didn’t spend more, especially on that book about musical magic. She was cool! Shedinn would have liked her.
After that, we travelled to Mirabar. We… I guess it’s we now! I’m talking about the people I met on the road. We’re different, but we’re together. There is Roshanna, a nice and weird colorful wizard. She also has a cute little flying pet dragon. She is a sailor. I want to learn from her. She uses a kind of blast that is very useful in adversity. Then there is Plejp. He mostly lost his memories it seems. It’s a bit sad to have forgotten your own family, but apparently he didn’t forget his god. Then there is Drogo. He seems quite distrusting of magic, and Roshanna plays on that… But all in good fun. He seems to be getting used to it. We then met Tog’rak. He doesn’t talk much, but seems loyal and helpful.
All our little group got headed towards Mirabar. Mostly because of one dying person telling us that we should when we met him in the church. He seemed to be telling us something important. I want to do good, and that seemed like a good direction to go in for that. But I must admit it was very fuzzy and vague… Well, it was bringing me further north, and you know how much I want to get up there and explore. I guess I didn’t need much more to convince me to get that way.
In Mirabar we encountered some powerful secrets. This led us to a colony of very interesting and nice mushroom-people! It was just really fascinating! They sneeze on you and their spores let you communicate. They were in a bit of a hard spot with the dwarves around, but we found an arrangement.
After that, we were apparently ready to go a bit further down the secrets… But the way North is dangerous. That’s why we got help from Silas. He helped us and guided us in our risky travel through the underdark. It was dark. It was… I’m happy I wasn’t alone.
We met lots of people with whom we couldn’t reason. They strike before you speak down there. The spiders, the dwarves, the monsters… The worse are maybe the ones hiding in stalagmites. They ensnare you and hurt you… bad. We also had to deal with water monsters, with others who were more organized, with some traps… Don’t worry though, we’re out now. Silas helped us a lot, especially by making us more sneaky through the last part of the journey. We all learned how to fight a bit better. We had too, sadly. I think you’d find me a bit less cheerful than what you remember.
One great piece of news though: Donaar, I managed to get Leomund’s song to work! I know you told me it was just a tale, but I wanted to believe in it… So I tried. It’s really useful, especially now that we’ve arrived in the open. Well, you probably all know it, but it’s cold up here. It’s wonderfully cold. But cold can be painful too. Especially the very very very cold I met here. I guess I should have known, with my breath defense making our enemies wounded, but feeling it myself is different. I rolled myself in the snow, and that was great, but that hurt. My music gave us protection from all that. I’m writing to you from below this dome, with a temperature that is a lot more comfortable, and my new friends around. I guess I’ll have more to say later, because for now it’s well time to rest and sleep a bit. I’m so happy we’re back up at the surface.
Love from your littlest,
earbender Daar
